Top Ladies Grace the Best Grand Slam

countdown banner

WTA – Wimbledon

Arguably the best Grand Slam in terms of history and prestige, Wimbledon attracts the best tennis players from all over the world to don all-white gear and play on the grass courts. Online betting fans can’t help but fix their eyes on the games as the allure of top tennis and big free bets are too hard to ignore.

What makes this year’s tournament different, however, is the fact that betting websites can’t tell which woman will be the last one standing at Centre Court at the end of it all.

Angelique Kerber is ranked first and is the overall favourite at 2.50 outright odds. However, her abysmal form over the past three months – including her withdrawal from Birmingham and her quarter-final loss to Johanna Konta (8.00) in Eastbourne – makes it difficult for some to place their bets on her reaching the final. It also makes the absence of Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova all the more glaring.

Karolina Pliskova will be coming to Wimbledon full of confidence after winning Eastbourne, and bookies give 3.00 to win Wimbledon should Kerber fail to get her act together. Simona Halep may have been unjustly slapped with 9.00 outright, given her strong performances this year.

Petra Kvitova (5.00) made a strong statement by winning it all at Birmingham and many believe she will make a deep run at Wimbledon. Jelena Ostapenko (7.00) made the most out of her sterling form in Roland Garros and will look to go as far as she could in the storied tournament.

Gabriñe Muguruza (8.00) had an okay grass-court season, and she is expected to make the Last 16 at the very least. Meanwhile, Madison Keys and Venus Williams, both given 11.00 outright odds, are expected to hoist the American flag in Serena’s absence. However, it’s unsure how Venus’ off-court troubles will affect her in-game performance.

Besides these ladies, there are a good number of players who have as good of a shot at the title in Serena’s absence. Coco Vandeweghe (15.00), Carolina Wozniacki (21.00) and Elina Svitolina (21.00) aren’t heavily fancied by bookmakers, but their ability to play is nothing to scoff at.

These ladies are set to make the lovely English backdrop fire up with the best tennis they can offer. Tennis fans and seasoned punters can expect a wonderful showing from these superb athletes once the show gets on the road.
