Angelique Kerber vs Serena Williams

Tennis fans have been treated to a new array of exciting players lately. Both the Men’s and Women’s Singles have seen its share of odds-breaking players that have pulled off one exciting upset after another. The sport’s future stars are slowly but surely making their presence known, knocking down the opposition. Even Wimbledon results saw some surprise victories.

It’s odd to say this, but it’s great to finally see some familiarity in the late stages of a great tournament. Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are set to trade blows during what could easily be the Gentlemen’s Singles final, and the actual Ladies’ Singles final is a continuation of an epic saga.

Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber have been out of the spotlight for quite a while, not making the later rounds of many important tournaments. It seemed for quite a bit that the two are already passing the torch to the new generation after missing out on such important matches.

However, they have proven that they are still at the top of their games and have no intentions of slowing down any time soon. Centre Court will definitely bear witness to another match of thrilling tennis from these two superb athletes!

Talking Points

Wimbledon News: Serena Williams is expected to win against Angelique Kerber
Can Serena Williams satisfy SBOBET and win against Angelique Kerber?

We have to get the obvious stuff out of the way: Serena Williams is one heck of a player. It’s important to remember that it hasn’t been long since Serena Williams returned to the pro circuit after giving birth to her daughter, Alexis. She has only played four tournaments in her return. Even Williams expected to not rush things and take a game-to-game approach to rediscover her form.

However, she just went and went and won match after match in one of the two Grand Slams where she found the most success. Save for a challenging quarter-final against Camila Giorgi, she had an easy time overpowering her opponents to a tenth appearance in the Wimbledon final.

Williams reminded everyone just what kind of a feat she’s done: “It’s like, come on guys, this is pretty awesome. To hear people say, “Oh, she’s a favourite’ — the last 16 months, I’ve played four tournaments and was carrying another human half that time. It’s interesting.”

Meanwhile, Angelique Kerber has done wonderfully in the tournament. She has lost only a single set in the tournament so far, and it seemed like Jelena Ostapenko would somehow make things a tad difficult for the German.

However, Kerber effortlessly showed her class over the 21-year-old and finished the match in an hour and eight minutes. She matched the Latvian’s serves and played a steady tennis focused on making few mistakes as possible.

She’s also in an interesting position as she is the highest-seeded person in the tournament’s semis after Wimbledon news confirmed the Top 10’s early exit in the opening four rounds. It may have put a lot of pressure on Kerber, but the German kept her cool and claimed that the surprising statistic doesn’t worry her in the slightest.

“No. I mean, to be honest, I am not feeling the pressure because I am not looking on the seeded or who is left or not,” she told The Daily Express.

“I’m just looking forward to my next match. For every single day that I’m here, I’m trying to do my best. This is all I’m focusing on.”

She’s right in doing so because she’s up for a challenging test before she gets a chance to clutch the Wimbledon plate all for herself.

History

The two ladies have mostly met on the hard courts, and Williams has the upper hand in their match-to-match history.

They first met at the 2007 iteration of the US Open. Kerber put up a good fight against the American in the second set, but Serena was unstoppable in her home soil.

Their next five duels were all decided in straight sets. The first one was taken by Kerber in Cincinnati, but the rest of their bouts were won by Williams. The only match they played in full sets were the 2016 Australian Open final, which Kerber won, 6-4 3-6 6-4.

Williams has found the most success in Melbourne and London, bagging seven victories in each Grand Slam. She has a high batting average at the All England club, winning seven of the nine finals she has been in. She will be hoping that she makes it 8-for-10.

Meanwhile, Kerber will be hoping for her first Wimbledon title. She almost had the 2016 tournament in the bag, but Serena had to win Title No Seven, after all.

What are the odds?

Williams is the overwhelming favourite at SBOBET for her other-worldly performance, and the odds greatly favour the American.

The Asian Handicap market offers promising prospects for the discerning punter. Williams -1.50 @ 2.33 is a no-brainer if you believe that their 2016 duel will just be repeated.

However, it’s also hard to deny that Kerber has been playing fantastic tennis as of late. If you think she’s bound to win her first Wimbledon title, then going for her Money Line odds of 2.56 is the way to go.
