Italian Open Men’s Singles Final

Alexander Zverev vs Novak Djokovic

Shining star versus rising star. The present versus the future. Veteran versus young gun.

That is the storyline of what could be a thrilling online betting finale in Rome where World No. 2 Novak Djokovic will face #NextGenATP star Alexander Zverev.

Of course, Djokovic is the betting odds favourite to win. With Money Line Odds pegging him at 1.16 while Zverev is at 4.57, betting tips have the Serbian winning this battle comfortably.

However, as hard as it is to beat Djokovic, the 20-year-old Zverev should still be able to make this one a fun and entertaining matchup.

The German wonderboy has been serving ridiculously as of late. Besides his elite athleticism and excellent shot making, he can put a lot of pressure on Djokovic if he continues to serve consistently.

He has been on a tear here in Rome as well, dropping only two sets in the tournament. He also defeated the unseeded John Isner in a three-set semi-final that lasted just under two hours to become the youngest Masters 1000 finalist since a 19-year-old Djokovic back in 2007.

Zverev won 88 percent of his first serve points and 65 percent of his second serve points in that match.

Djokovic, nonetheless, appears to have rediscovered his form just in time for the Roland Garros next week. If Zverev met him in the previous tournaments this year, he could have a chance to take down the then vulnerable Serb.

But Zverev’s chance might have already passed with the Djoker beating Dominic Thiem the last time out in a one-sided massacre that saw the Austrian win only one game in a match that lasted for 13 games and 59 minutes.

That is the same Thiem that defeated Rafael Nadal in straight sets in the quarter-finals.

I think Zverev can snatch a few games against the 29-year-old veteran with his power and aggression, but Djokovic can take advantage of his opponent’s slippages and mistakes to make him pay. It should also help him that he has a better defence than the rising star.

Not to mention that it will be Djokovic’s birthday tomorrow, so a win will be a great present.

If you’re punting, Djokovic on Game Handicap -5.00 @ 2.02 is the best choice.
