WTA – Rogers Cup

Tennis live betting returns for the Rogers Cup, and it promises to be another exciting and unpredictable affair with the women’s top stars all gearing up to make some noise in front of a boisterous crowd at the Aviva Centre in Toronto.

Sports betting fans are already getting used to the absence of Serena Williams, who also missed the 2016 version of the tournament due to an inflamed shoulder. However, despite the decrease in the drawing power of the competition, there will be no shortage of talent on the courts of Canada when the battle begins.

Czech star Karolina Pliskova headlines the stacked field as she makes her debut as World No.1. Having already won three titles this year, she’s an early favourite to make it deep in the contest.

The 25-year-old is yet to capture a major, but her consistency makes her a formidable force worthy of taking a look at.

Simona Halep also returns to defend her title, and she is looking more than capable of making a repeat. Although she had an up-and-down clay-court campaign this 2017, she had reached at least the quarterfinal in all but one tournament since the Australian Open.

Not to mention that she has made the finals of the Rogers Cup for two straight years now.

Angelique Kerber and Garbine Muguruza are also present to spice things up in the week-long event. Kerber is obviously struggling after dropping to third in the rankings, but a good run can see her recapture her dominant 2016 form.

Muguruza, meanwhile, is coming off her Wimbledon victory last July, and she should be motivated to prove her progress in the tournament that hasn’t been kind to her – having lost in the competition’s first round in 2015.

Other top-seeded players to watch out for include Elina Svitolina, Johanna Konta, and Venus Williams who all have been consistent, making at least the last eight of the big-name events that they joined.

Konta and Williams are particularly on the rise, with the former rising to No.7 after a semifinal berth in Wimbledon and the latter winning 26 matches to date and reaching two Slam finals.

There’s also a young crop of players in Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko and Canada’s Francoise Abanda who could make things interesting and surprise their more experienced counterparts. Ostapenko, specifically, can very well pull an upset after showing in the French Open that she has what it takes to be the sport’s next big star.

Wild card Canadian players Eugenie Bouchard and Bianca Andreescu – who took Maria Sharapova’s spot after the Russian withdrew – also have a good chance to impress as their home fans rally behind them in Toronto.

Indeed, nothing is set in stone yet, but with a lineup of proven veterans and young up-and-coming players, fans can very well expect more thrilling tennis this coming week.
