Daniil Medvedev abruptly ended Grigor Dimitrov’s Cinderella run while Rafael Nadal continues his superb form by beating the young Mattheo Berrettini in their semis matchup.
Two of the ATP’s hottest players this season are going to duke it out in what will be a battle of generations happening at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday.
Daniil Medvedev will be making his maiden Grand Slam Final as he continues to ride his hot hand after recently winning the Cincinnati Masters few months ago.
On the other hand, Rafael Nadal will be gunning for his 19th Grand Slam title and he looks to be peaking at the right time. All in all, the Spaniard will be entering his 27th Grand Slam Final, placing only second behind fellow tennis great Roger Federer.
Nadal appears to be the hot favourite to win his finals matchup against Medvedev, as per US Open 2019 odds. However, it will be hard to count the young Russian out.

Daniil Medvedev sustains his excellent form
What a year has been so far for the young Russian.
Daniil Medvedev has enjoyed much success with his forays back in Washington and in Canada before claiming his first ATP Masters 1000 trophy in Cincinnati. Coming into the tournament, many have wondered if he could sustain or replicate his form.
He responded well by reaching his first ever Grand Slam final by defeating Grigor Dimitrov last Friday in their semis showdown. By achieving such feat, Medvedev became the first Russian since Marat Safin in 2005 to reach a major championship match.
Looking into his US Open journey, the fifth-ranked ATP player had to go through a lot in order to get to the biggest stage. He had to overcome a lingering thigh injury in order to beat Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals – who upset Novak Djokovic in the earlier round.
He then had to face the ever-confident Grigor Dimitrov who was making an unprecedented run fresh from defeating Roger Federer in the quarterfinals. In a match that lasted for more than two hours, Medvedev managed to hold on as his opponent faltered towards the end.
For the most part, he became the tournament’s villain after doing a middle-finger gesture directed at fans in his third-round victory. And this was evident particularly during his semis match against Dimitrov where he was serenaded by a lot of boos from the audience. Instead of succumbing to the pressure, however, he turned it into fuel to up his game even further.
The future is indeed bright for the 23-year-old. With guys like Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic getting older, I won’t be surprised if the torch gets handed over to a rising star in Daniil Medvedev soon.
“Talking about Rafa, it’s tough to find words. He’s one of the greatest champions in the history of our sport. He’s just a machine, a beast on the court,” said Medvedev when asked about his matchup against Nadal.
“To play him in your first Grand Slam final should be, I want to say, a funny thing. It’s not going to be a funny thing, but it’s going to be an amazing thing to live,” he emphasized.
Who can stop Rafael Nadal?
At 33-years-old, Nadal is techinically approaching towards the end of his prime, but it doesn’t seem to show so far in this tournament.
Aside from dominating the competition in the US Open, he also got some lucky breaks as well. In the third round, the Spaniard was awarded a walkover when Thanasi Kokkinakis couldn’t continue due to an ailing right shoulder while his counterparts had to endure long, grueling matches just to advance.
Overall, Nadal only lost one set in all of his six victories but of course he wouldn’t be satisfied to only get to the final.
