ATP: 5 Things to Know About Novak Djokovic

In case you haven’t heard, the top-ranked ATP player Novak Djokovic has unfortunately contracted the coronavirus along with his wife Jelena just a few days ago.

The Serbian sensation was recently holding the Adria Tour, which was met by a ton of criticism by many despite its philanthropic intentions.

With this piece of ATP 2020 news, the beleaguered tennis superstar has expressed his apology and also provided a quick update on his overall health.

“I am extremely sorry for each individual case of infection. I hope that it will not complicate anyone’s health situation and that every will be fine. I will remain in self-isolation for the next 14 days, and repeat the test in five days,” said the Serb in his statement.

With the fallout of the Balkans fiasco, it remains to be seen on how this will affect the planning of the tours both for the ATP and WTA. Hopefully, everything will be fine soon in order for SBOBET fans to have their tennis action back.

Since we don’t have any major events happening soon, today, let us feature some of the things you need to know about Novak Djokovic – from personal life to his professional career.

He is from a family of skiers

The Djokovic family has athleticism in their genes. However, tennis wasn’t really the sport that the family pursued first.

Novak’s dad, Srdjian, was a professional skier back in the day and he also worked as a ski instructor. Srdjian and his wife Dijana owns a restaurant and sports equipment business in the Serbian mountains in order to support their family.

When Novak reached four years old, his parents encouraged him to learn the sport of tennis and he took a liking to it.

As he continued to learn more about the sport, Novak Djokovic was spotted by Jelena Gencic who was a Yugoslavian tennis player, and the two started to work together ever since.

And as they say, the rest was history.

Novak married his high school sweetheart

Despite his rapid rise to fame, Djokovic remained true to his roots.

He remained steady with his high school sweetheart Jelena Ristic all throughout and they were able to tie the knot in July 2014.

Fast forward to today, Novak and Jelena have two kids in Stefan and Tara, who are six and three years old respectively.

He is a successful businessman and writer

Like his fellow tennis great in Serena Williams, Djokovic pursued several ventures outside of the tennis realm.

At some point in his professional career, the Djoker became a book writer, movie producer, and a restaurant owner.

He wrote the book Serve to Win to give his supporters a glimpse into his life and his strict diet. At the same time, through his pro-vegan movement, the 33-year-old was very active in producing the Netflix documentary Game Changers alongside the likes of movie director James Cameron, martial arts icon Jackie Chan, NBA player Chris Paul, and bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Novak Djokovic also created Eqtiva, which is a high-end restaurant that serves its customers a unique vegan menu. Some of the restaurant’s all-time top sellers include the vegetable gnocchi, black bean burger, and the flavorful whole grain rice side dish.

But perhaps one of his biggest achievements off the tennis court is by creating the Novak Djokovic Foundation along with his wife. The said foundation aims to provide educational opportunities for underprivileged kids in his home country in Serbia.

He is a polyglot

With him travelling all over the world, for sure Novak Djokovic has learned some important phrases here and there from several countries.

But he doesn’t just meet the bare minimum, as he appears to be very fluent in speaking Serbian, English, French, German, and Italian.

You can see it during his press interviews where he would go speak in the native tongue after most matches, and that’s quite a sight to see.

The world’s No. 1 is a born winner

A quick look on his career resume paints a big picture of who Novak Djokovic is all about in the world of tennis.

He has the fifth-most career ATP titles with 79 and 17 Grand Slams, and the Serbian superstar continues to strive for greatness in the ATP.

Novak Djokovic still owns the highest ATP 2020 odds of winning in the next set of tours given his most recent performance in the 2020 Australian Open, and it is widely expected that he will continue to win more accolades down the road.
