Manny Pacquiao def. Adrien Broner (Unanimous decision)
As it turns out, the so-called “The Problem” wasn’t anything close to his nickname. Well, for Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao that is.
Pacquiao solved Adrien Broner in their WBA Welterweight title fight at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, using the 12 rounds of the bout to dissect his American opponent and expose his weaknesses using calculated combination punches and top-class speed.
Broner was expected to put up a fight and go for the knockout. After all, this Manny Pacquiao vs Adrien Broner fight was supposed to be the 29-year-old’s last shot at redemption. And against an ageing Pacquiao, he could use his better physique and power to dominate.
However, Broner was just all talk and once again failed to live up to expectations of being the heir-apparent to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Highlights of the game
For all his off-ring antics and thrash talking, Broner disappointed and showed that he doesn’t have the skills to back his words.
Broner, 11 years younger than the 40-year-old Pacman, declared a KO during the build-up to the event. In true Broner fashion, he delivered racist remarks and was confident he could put the eight-division world champion to sleep.
Nevertheless, no matter how heavy his off-the-ring blows were, it didn’t matter as he failed to deliver any punch…literally and figuratively.
Pacquiao controlled proceedings right from the start, and while Broner did win a round or two, he didn’t throw enough punches to make it a fight. Pacman had it easy.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native is known as a defensive specialist and a good counter-puncher. But against a speedy Pacquiao who turned back the clock, Broner had little to no chance to show off his goods and was left running a lot to stay on his feet.

Perhaps, the best part of the fight came in the seventh and ninth rounds when Pacquiao connected the big left hands that hurt Broner.
Pacquiao, who landed a huge body punch on his opponent in the sixth, picked up where he left off and peppered Broner with a flurry of combination punches and body attacks in the seventh. The Filipino power-puncher sent a left straight across the face of the four-division world title-holder who then staggered away.
It was almost the same in the ninth round, with Pacquiao sensing blood and aiming for the knockout. The Pacman launched another straight left, sending Broner away and across the ring.
Unfortunately for Pacquiao, he wasn’t able to knock down and finish Broner the way he wanted. From the 10th frame onwards, Broner ran away a la Mayweather and wasted time to go out of the competition on his feet.
Interestingly, at the end of the 12th round, Broner raised his hands—seemingly implying that he won the fight.
As expected, Pacquiao won the fight by decision. Two judges scored it 116-112 in favour of Pacquiao, with the third judge giving the fight to Pacman with a 117-111 scorecard.

“Tell him to a comeback to the ring, and we will fight… I’m willing to fight again,” Pacquiao said of Mayweather after the fight.
