Japanese Grand Prix

The live betting battle at the top of the Formula 1 standings is about to reach its climax, and Suzuka may reveal who the eventual winner of the 2017 season will be.

The conversation on who is the betting websites’ favourites to win it all still revolves around Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. However, the Briton is slowly getting away with a string of impressive races since Belgium. Given how frighteningly fast Mercedes have been over the past few races, it’s easy to see betting odds like 2.00 outright odds for Mercedes’ first-choice driver.

However, it’s important to remember that the Suzuka International Racing Course is a favourite of Vettel. The German has won four times on this track, more than any other active driver in the competition. Ferrari also lucked out that Vettel won’t have to change his machine’s gearbox for the race. Barring another mechanical or driving issue to derail Vettel’s campaign even further, his 2.75 odds are attractive.

Max Verstappen pulled off a fantastic performance in Malaysia and will try to ride on the momentum at Suzuka. The speedy and technical track also plays to the young Dutch’s strengths, so it’s not at all surprising to see bookies give him a nice 4.50.

Daniel Ricciardo’s third-place finish in Sepang also got him brownie points from pundits, earning him 6.50 outright odds. Kimi Raikkonen (11.00) and Valtteri Bottas (17.00) aren’t looked at favourably compared to their peers, but the Finns will definitely pull off something impressive and shock the Japanese crowd. This holds especially true for Bottas, a driver that has wowed many a crowd this season.

Raikkonen has an incredible memory at Suzuka – he won the 2005 race despite starting from P17. Given how the Flying Finn pulled off such an impressive feat, it’s not a bad idea to look at the chasing pack for possible upsets. Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa have a chance of gaining big points if the weather favours them.

This race could be the decider or the setup to a brilliant climax. Japanese racing fans and online punters all over the world will have their eyes locked at Suzuka as the drivers race on their favourite track.
