World Cup 2022: England Expect Another Big Win!

England’s World Cup 2022 qualification campaign continues on Tuesday when Hungary are the visitors to Wembley Stadium.

After agonisingly missing out on Euro 2020 glory the Three Lions are on the brink of qualifying for Qatar 2022. England are top of Group I on 19 points from seven games, while Hungary are teetering on the edge of a cliff, in fourth place on ten points and, with just three games remaining, they are four points behind third-placed Poland.

The World Cup 2022 betting odds have the Three Lions nailed on to qualify within the next two rounds; Gareth Southgate’s team won impressively in Hungary last month…and I can’t see any different outcome on the horizon this time.

Young striker Tammy Abraham, who is now plying his trade in Serie A with Roma, was on target in a 5-0 win against Andorra on Saturday, while Ben Chilwell and Jack Grealish scored their first goals for England and Bukayo Saka and James Ward-Prowse each scored their second goals of the tournament. So even without Harry Kane or Raheem Sterling to stretch the opposition defence, this side has goals everywhere. Andorra aren’t the most frightening opponent but when you also consider that England have the outstanding duo of Phil Foden and Mason Mount to work alongside Grealish, this is some creative unit.

Foden was outstanding in Manchester City’s recent 2-2 draw with Liverpool and Sky Blue fans reckon he could be the player of the 2020s.

Hungary off the boil

After making a decent start to their World Cup qualification campaign, with wins over San Marino and Andorra and a draw with Poland, Hungary’s fortunes have taken a swift turn for the worse as they have suffered three defeats in four, punctuated only by an unimpressive 2-1 home win over the minnows of Andorra. With a set of World Cup 2022 results like that the Magyars are staring at the exit door.

Marco Rossi’s team come into this game on the back of a 0-1 defeat to Albania, a disastrous evening by anyone’s standards as they were comfortably out-played by the Albanians who had more shots, and more shots on target.

The Red Bull Leipzig trio of goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, centre back Willi Orban and Dominik Szoboszlai in midfield are sued to challenging for honours domestically in the Bundesliga; but their national team is miles away.

History

Twice World Cup runners up, during their golden period inspired by the legendary Ferenc Puskas, Hungary have struggled to recapture former glories for some time now.

England have bossed the head to head meetings with Hungary, after losing their first encounter, in 1962, they have won the last five.

In the most recent meeting the Three Lions won in Hungary 0-4. After a goalless first half at the Ferenc Puskas Arena, England ran riot in the second period with Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Declan Rice all on target to quieten a hostile home crowd.
