Germany vs England

Football games between these two nations need no introduction.

And that’s why I’m not going to give one.

For me, I will merely point you in the direction of the betting odds which suggests this one could go either way.

For if Asian Handicap Betting is your penchant, you can get odds of -0.75 Germany @ 1.99 and +0.50 England @ 2.20.

The 1X2 draw @ 3.50 is tempting, and if you really think there’ll be a repeat of the scoreline from the friendly these sides played 12 months ago, then a correct score of Germany 2-3 England is priced @ 60.00.

However, all I would say is, don’t read too much into this one.

When these sides met last Easter, Germany led 2-0 before England fought back through the in-form Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Eric Dier to seal a Three Lions comeback.

The hope that sparked ahead of Euro 2016 proved a false dawn.

England won one match and were knocked out of the last 16 stage by minnows Iceland – a result which cost manager Roy Hodgson his job.

Germany bounced back and reached the semi-finals where only some debatable officiating and some inspired French defending prevented them from reaching another major final.

This time there will be some new faces and some regular ones missing.

For example, Kane is out injured as is the man he fired past in that game, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who was due to win his 75th international cap before a calf injury ruled him out.

Familiarity won’t be a problem, however, as four of the German players in Joachim Low’s squad ply their trade in the English Premier League.

And then there’s England.

Jermain Defoe is back after more than a three-year absence from the international set-up while returning from the wilderness is new West Brom midfielder Jake Livermore, whose sole cap came in 2012.

Add uncapped Southampton duo James Ward-Prowse and Nathan Redmond into the mix and there will be a combination of old and new likely to get an opportunity in Dortmund where the Germans have an excellent record.

Of course, both nations will use this as an opportunity to experiment ahead of important World Cup qualifiers.

That’s not to say it won’t be another mini-classic but, as indicators go, don’t read too much into this one!
