UEFA Nations League Wales vs Denmark: Can Giggs Do It Again at Home?

countdown banner

Wales vs Denmark

Wales are in an interesting place if we consider world football.

They have one of the biggest legends to ever play for the Dragons in charge at the touchline. They have one of the world’s best in Gareth Bale. They have top-quality youth talent coming up through the ranks to help push the national team forward.

While Giggs’ Wales haven’t proven much yet, the fact that the UEFA Nations League: Wales vs Denmark is already billed as one of the most exciting fixtures in the international break proves just how big of an expectation there is on Giggs’ men. I’d love to think that his lads will be up for the challenge as their opponents will be prepared for whatever they throw their way.

Will the Dragons be able to walk away from the Cardiff City Stadium in smiles? Or will the Danish Dynamite prove their dominance once more in what is expected to be another tough game?

Talking Points

Wales: The Dragons Roar Anew

The buzzing positivity that took over the nation after Wales’ overwhelming triumph over Republic of Ireland has diminished a bit, but the hype surrounding Giggs’ team is still to fully dissipate into heavy criticism. There’s still a heavy belief among the fans that the former Manchester United man can finally bring the Dragons back to the biggest stages of world football.

Of course, not everything has been rosy for them. Their 1-4 humiliation to a visiting Spain side showed the team and the crowd the amount of improvement they still have to make if they want to make it to the top of the FIFA rankings.

Whether or not they succeed against the Danish Dynamite will be highly dependent on the availability of Gareth Bale. The Real Madrid star is going through treatment after suffering an ankle injury during Real Madrid’s Celta Vigo win. Bale will be a key loss if he’s not deemed fit to play, but it’s not like the Dragons will be out of quality players to deal with Denmark.

Sam Vokes will be able to bring in goals in place of Bale. Matt Smith is a young talent that has been making noise in Manchester City’s youth program. David Brooks is a great boon for the Welsh midfield as the Bournemouth midfielder is making waves for both club and country.

I don’t think Wales would perform horribly without Bale in front of their faithful crowd. However, things would be much better if they had their star man ready to duel it out with the best Denmark have to offer.

Denmark: Begin a Solid Away Form in Wales

Denmark have done reasonably well after narrowly losing to Croatia in the World Cup’s knockout stages, but Age Hareide wants more out of his Danish Dynamites. Their last Nations League result was a bore draw against Republic of Ireland that saw the Boys in Green holding down the fort as Denmark struggled to find the back of the net.

Christian Eriksen is all set to lead his side and win in the upcoming UEFA Nations League Wales vs Denmark fixture
Denmark players Kasper Dolberg, Christian Eriksen and Andreas Christensen stand on the pitch during their World Cup match with France last June

However, we must remember that that clash was done without their key man, Christian Eriksen, running things up the middle of the Danish midfield. Should the Tottenham midfielder have started that game, the match could have easily become one of the most lopsided results in the tournament.

They are billed as slight underdogs ahead of this match, as the draw exposed their lack of creative options in the final third. With that being said, Eriksen is approaching this game with the mentality of “a big cup final”. Denmark will win an important three points and superb away form if they win in Cardiff.

The team will be extra wary of Wales regardless of Bale getting the go-ahead from the team doctors. If the game starts with two of the best players in European football ready to play, we have one of the potentially most interesting Wales vs Denmark results in our hands.

History

There isn’t much separating the two football-crazy nations when it comes to head-to-head history. Of the nine games played, Denmark won five of those, and no draws have been made as of yet. There’s not much separating the two goal-wise, with Wales’ eight just two short of Denmark’s 10-goal tally.

Denmark have had the more consistent form, getting good results in three of their last four matches after their World Cup exit. Meanwhile, Wales ceded six goals and scored only once in between their matches against Republic of Ireland.

Betting Tip

??
Wales vs Denmark Wales Asian Handicap
-0.25 @ 2.33
November 17, 03:45 (GMT+8)

Wales vs Denmark odds at leading bookies like SBOBET favour Wales due to the recent draw Denmark endured against Ireland. Moreover, the Cardiff City Stadium should be loud as ever as Giggs try to get the three points.

I think Wales should have enough quality and passion moving forward to overtake a very capable Denmark team and finish their maiden Nations League voyage at the top of their group.

If you’re interested in other markets, the 1X2 market has Wales @ 2.67. If you favour a repeat of what Denmark did last time out, though, a 0-2 Correct Score is available at a lip-smacking 13.50.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
