Just when you thought that the Bundesliga is about to roll the carpet for Bayern Munich, things like last weekend happen.
The football games played during the last game day made the battle at the top uncomfortably close for the Bavarians. With the young Red Bulls edging closer, Carlo Ancelotti needs another big win to secure his club’s betting odds of winning the Bundesliga title.
WEEK 22 SATURDAY:
Wolfsburg vs Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen barely kept themselves out of the bottom thanks to a solid win against Mainz. They can crawl their way out to safety by beating a drained Wolfsburg side. This should be an easy win for the visitors as Wolfsburg have many injured players.
Bayern Munich vs Hamburger SV
Bayern could have run away with the title if they managed to overwhelm Hertha Berlin, but the draw sets them up for another uncomfortable title defence, with three clubs hot on their trail. Robert Lewandowski and company shouldn’t have any problem beating Hamburg at Allianz Arena, but the visitors smashed Leipzig at their own stomping grounds.
Hamburger SV should be able to make this game interesting and the hosts will probably win by only one goal. With that being said, I reckon the risk-takers to punt on Hamburg +2.00 for 2.11.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Mainz 05
Barring their abysmal Champions League match, Bayer Leverkusen are actually doing well as of late. They won their last two league games and should not have any trouble getting another three points against Mainz. Martin Schmidt needs to do a lot of planning to control Javier Hernandez.
Darmstadt 98 vs Augsburg
Darmstadt’s freefall to Bundesliga 2 will be sealed if they fail to win against Augsburg. The visitors can’t find their shooting boots, making this the perfect time for Torsten Frings to rekindle the brilliance his side had when they won against Dortmund more than a week ago.
Freiburg vs Borussia Dortmund
Dortmund made a long, arduous climb back to the Champions League spots, and their win against Wolfsburg slots them to third. While the prospect of a championship looks bleak, they can always apply pressure on the two clubs above them by winning against a decent Freiburg side.
Dortmund have enough quality to overcome Freiburg’s big guns in Maximilian Philipp and Vincenzo Grifo. Dortmund are favourites for a reason, so a handicap as small as -1.00 can compound your winnings by 1.96.
RB Leipzig vs Koln
Leipzig managed to stop their skid with a win over Borussia Monchengladbach, but that game was more of a struggle for survival than a dominant display for football. The young Red Bulls need to play better football if they want to stay on the heels of Bayern. Anthony Modeste and Cologne will not make things any easier for Willi Orban and the Leipzig backline.
WEEK 22 SUNDAY:
Hertha BSC vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Leipzig, Dortmund and Hoffenheim are thanking sixth-placed Hertha Berlin for almost beating the Bavarians last time out. Pal Dardai will be riding this momentum to get their first win in four games against a struggling Frankfurt side. If Berlin manage to win this contest, they have a chance to jump up to third place.
Vedad Ibisevic will be the biggest man on the pitch: his confidence will be sky-high after beating Manuel Neuer to put the Blue-Whites ahead. They haven’t lost at home since December 2016, so betting on Berlin is a no-brainer. Betting with a -0.75 handicap can get you 2.47.
Ingolstadt vs Borussia Monchengladbach
Ingolstadt shocked Frankfurt with an inspired performance that ended in a dominant 0-2 defeat for the hosts. Meanwhile, Monchengladbach brought the fight to the visiting Leipzig but failed to make a comeback. These clubs are displaying competitive football and should make for an explosive match.
WEEK 22 MONDAY:
Schalke 04 vs Hoffenheim
Hoffenheim are having an up-and-down month while Schalke are finding it difficult to convert 50-50 games to victories. Both of the managers will want their squads to establish some stability with this game. The game will now depend on whether Hoffenheim can stop Schalke from scoring more goals than them.
