Liverpool vs Arsenal

If there ain’t goals in this one, I’ll be astonished football betting fans.

In the home corner, a club which has struggled to build up momentum since the turn of the year and whose players, in the words of their coach Jurgen Klopp, are now ‘fighting for their futures’.

In the away end, a club which has been found wanting in all the usual areas (defensively and mental fragility) and whose own manager, Arsene Wenger, is supposedly fighting for his future.

Football games between these two are so often eagerly anticipated.

And as Arsenal prepare to visit Anfield this occasion should be no different with both clubs trying to salvage something from the season.

Recent form suggests if there is an available place in the Premier League top four – and a lucrative Champions League spot – only one of these teams will make it.

There’s no doubt Klopp’s honeymoon period at Liverpool is over 16 months in.

Indeed, after 55 league games at the club, he has three fewer points than his much maligned predecessor Brendan Rodgers.

After seeing off Spurs, defeat at Leicester – who for once played like reigning champions – meant the Merseysiders have only won twice in their last 12 matches.

This against a Leicester team which had failed to score in the league at all in 2017.

Like Liverpool, Arsenal have known for some time they are realistically fighting for a top four spot rather than making a title bid.

Their familiar self-destructive streak is threatening to create another trophyless season.

More worrying still for Arsenal is their one world class talent, Alexis Sanchez, is reportedly growing frustrated at the failings of his employer.

Meanwhile, the anger and disillusionment amongst some supporters – they see many familiar failings not being addressed – is clear to see.

When these two sides met last season this match finished 3-3.

When they met at the Emirates at the beginning of this campaign, Liverpool triumphed 4-3.

This is a huge match for both in their quest for a top four finish and one which again should be compelling and full of goals, partly because of their talent and partly because of those all too familiar failings.
