Serie A: When Money Talks, Stars Will Listen

countdown banner

The January transfer window is underway as multiple players and teams have been in contract talks despite the games coming in thick and fast.

Unfortunately for some Serie A clubs, their main focus is to fend off various suitors rather than bringing in new star talent, which seems to be the case for Napoli and Juventus – who coincidentally faced off during the New Year.

Napoli and Juventus have players who are considered as some of the top commodities in world football, and both calcios must step up in order to not come out empty-handed.

Read on below as SBOTOP reviews all the latest Serie A 2022 updates on several transfer rumours.

Toronto FC pry Lorenzo Insigne away from Napoli

Lorenzo Insigne is the first official star who is set for a departure from Serie A soon after accepting a megadeal from MLS side Toronto FC.

After spending 12 years representing I Partenopei, the 30-year-old forward was given a lucrative five-and-a-half-year contract that is worth about $13-M per season along with a generous add-on bonus of $5.1-M.

He will get to finish this season for Napoli, though – who are now at third in the Serie A standings – as his current contract expires in July.

Napoli fans will be sad to see him leave since he’s unable to come to terms as the club couldn’t give him the big money that he wanted. Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund expressed interest for Insigne before, but both never came to the table.

The timing of his decision to change his address to Canada feels similar to when Juventus star Sebastian Giovinco moved to Toronto FC back in 2015, making him the highest-paid player in the MLS at the time.

Nonetheless, Insigne is considered as a club legend given his decorated resume and he has scored 114 goals In over 400 matches for them.

Insigne has been a household name not only for Napoli, but also for the Italian national team. The Naples native debuted for the Azzurri in 2012 and he has 10 goals in 53 international caps.

Dusan Vlahovic and Andrea Belotti have a growing list of suitors

Serie A has seen Dusan Vlahovic and Andrea Belotti’s rise to stardom, so it’s natural to see their names continually float in the transfer rumours.

Vlahovic has been lighting it up for Fiorentina in Serie A with 16 goals and two assists, and he has led them to sixth place to put themselves in contention for a place in Europe.

Arsenal are one of the clubs who are pursuing him since their need for a striker has been heightened by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s exile, while Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazzette can both leave for free in the summer.

Vlahovic can come and contribute right away and help the Gunners return to the Champions League, which appears to be a solid point of persuasion for his services.

Belotti’s counting stats this season, meanwhile, appear modest with two goals and one assist. However, he has been injured for the most part and he’s carried Torino for the better part of the decade – scoring 107 goals and 28 assists in six-plus seasons – and he also has 12 goals in 41 caps for Italy.

Following their recent acquisition of Lorenzo Insigne, it looks like Toronto FC aren’t done with their audacious aspirations as they have reportedly started talks with the Torino forward.

The MLS side is expected to bring out the brinks truck for Andrea Belotti, and signing another high-profile Serie A star would be a major coup for the Reds.

Barcelona play tug-of-war with Juventus for Alvaro Morata

Barcelona have been working on a short-term loan with an option to buy for Alvaro Morata despite Juventus’ position on the potential move.

Max Allegri recently reiterated that Morata is staying in Turin and he’s keen on holding on to him since he’s been doing well for Juventus this season.

After a rough start to the season, Juve have improved their Serie A 2022 odds for an European place because they’re now at fifth with 35 points and Alvaro Morata is a huge reason why.

The towering Spaniard has punched in seven goals and two assists so far, and he has formed a strong strike partnership with Paulo Dybala since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United.

Juventus are likely to want a top quality replacement to be convinced that they can let go of Morata. Barcelona reportedly offered Memphis Depay in a straight player-to-player swap but Juventus rejected the offer.
