Inter Milan vs Torino
Inter Milan continue their quest to retain the Scudetto on Wednesday when Torino are the visitors to the San Siro Stadium for a Serie A clash to savour.
Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan are four points clear at the top of the table and, after being written off by many at the start of the campaign, they look every inch the champions; and the latest Serie A 2021 betting odds have them heavily odds on to win the title again next May. Normally a high profile Milan vs Turin clash would involve Juventus; but the Old Lady is floundering in seventh and 12 points off the pace, three places and six points above Torino.
After a difficult start to the campaign, the visitors have rallied recently to climb 15 points above the drop zone, and head coach Ivan Juric will be looking upwards rather than over his shoulder. Il Toro can play without fear, but I suspect that won’t help them as the Inter bandwagon gathers pace.
Talking Points
Inter’s creators are world class
At SBOTOP odds of 1.40 to win the league, it is Inter’s Scudetto to lose and the manager and players have a steely look of determination about them. After watching Napoli and Milan fly out of the blocks and take a healthy lead at the top of the table, Simone Inzaghi’s Inter have stealthily climbed above their rivals with a relentless set of Serie A 2021 results. Eight wins and two draws from the last ten games has put some distance between the champions and the chasers and Inzaghi can look at is creative players with plenty of satisfaction.
The departure of striker Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea over the summer, as well as the loss of head coach Antonio Conte, cast some doubt over the Nerazzurri’s ability to dominate; but the doubters have been proved wrong. With 11 goals Lautaro Martinez is performing just as well as he did last season alongside Lukaku, and the young Argentine is now the main man and clearly relishing the responsibility. And he has no shortage of supply.
Inter have the two most prolific assist makers in Serie A. Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has scored six goals and made seven assists, two in the 5-0 victory over Salernitana, while Martinez scored his 11th league goal of the campaign, while Italy star Nicolo Barella has also made seven assists. When you add into the mix the experience of Ivan Perisic then you have a terrifying threat facing defences throughout the league.
Torino on the right track
A year ago, Torino were in the thick of a relegation scrap, 17th in the table with 13 points on the board, while they currently have 25 and are sitting happily in tenth place.
Head coach Juric doesn’t have the riches of attacking talent available to Inzaghi, but he does have some very consistent performers and some useful loan signings. 22-year-old midfield man Tommaso Pogeba is on loan from Milan and he has scored four goals, while Croatian striker Josip Brekalo, on loan from Wolfsburg, has also settled well in Turin and has contributed three goals, as have fellow strikers Antonio Sanabria and Marko Pjaca; though Juric is without his veteran striker and captain Andrea Belotti, who is out injured.
Pobega bagged the only goal of the game in Torino’s 1-0 win over Verona last time out, though Il Toro were helped by the dismissal of Verona’s Giangiacomo Magnani midway through the first half.
History
I Nerazzurri have totally dominated the head to heads with Torino, winning 21 of the last 36 games, drawing ten and losing just five. Inter have won the last five meetings, including a 4-2 victory at the San Siro in November 2020, coming back from a two-goal deficit to score four goals in the final half hour, two for Lukaku and a goal each for Martinez and Alexis Sanchez.
Inter have won their last five league games, scoring 16 goals and conceding precisely none while Torino are unbeaten in four, picking up eight points along the way.

With Torino at odds of 8.75 to win and the draw at 5.00, there seems to be little hope for the visitors, and I’d tend to agree with that. While Il Toro are having a much better season and are on a nice run of form, they come up against a side that is sweeping aside all before it; and the array of attacking talent in Inzaghi’s side makes them a tough team to live with. I expect I Nerazzurri to win with something to spare.
