Serie A: Can Hellas Verona Put a Stop to Torino’s Streak?

Hellas Verona vs Torino

Two teams that are aiming to return to European football will convene at the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium this weekend, as Hellas Verona host Torino for the fifth matchday of the 2024-25 Serie A campaign.

Hellas Verona and Torino missed out last season, with the latter finishing in ninth place and the former closer to the drop zone in 13th place.

However, both teams started nicely this year, as the hosts are in seventh place with six points and the visitors are two notches above them with eight points.

Despite their slightly contrasting recent forms, the pre-game SBOTOP betting odds expect a close fight between Hellas Verona and Torino. Hopefully, football fans will get their fair share of Serie A 2024 highlights as well.

Talking Points

Tengstedt opened his Hellas Verona account

One of the biggest moves Hellas Verona made last summer transfer window was acquiring Casper Tengstedt from Benfica on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old Dane started in three of their first four Serie A games. He didn’t find the back of the net against Napoli and Juventus, but Tengstedt broke his duck against Genoa by converting a penalty after a handball violation.

Tengstedt was back on the scoresheet in Hellas Verona’s 2-1 loss against Lazio yesterday, as he netted the equaliser two minutes after Boulaye Dia opened the scoring for the Biancocelesti.

Before joining the Gialloblu this summer, Casper Tengstedt scored four goals and provided seven assists in 31 competitive appearances for Benfica. That could’ve been more if he didn’t suffer a muscular injury that kept him sidelined between December 2023 and February 2024.

With Tengstedt alongside Daniel Mosquera and Dailon Livramento, the heroes in their opening victory over Napoli, head coach Paolo Zanetti has a good attacking core to work with, which is the luxury their previous manager didn’t have.

Breaking their drought against Torino would certainly give them a huge boost, especially since they have winnable matches against Como, Venezia, and Monza next before they take on Atalanta in late October.

Vanoli off to a fantastic start at Torino

Torino are one of the few undefeated teams left in Serie A with two wins and two draws, which is an ideal start to Paolo Vanoli’s career in Turin.

Following a robust performance in their 2-2 draw against AC Milan, Il Toro recorded back-to-back wins against Atalanta (2-1) and Venezia (1-0) before they were held to a goalless draw by Lecce last time out.

Vanoli can owe his strong start in Turin to Il Toro’s two marquee additions this summer, as Saul Coco and Che Adams have already found their footing.

Adams already has chemistry with Duvan Zapata up front, and the former Southampton striker now has one goal and one assist. Coco, on the other hand, looked poised to fill in the void left by Alessandro Buongiorno, and he also has a goal under his belt.

Torino only paid €7.5 million to get Adams and Coco, which is a good piece of business for the club.

History

Hellas Verona and Torino have drawn a lot in Serie A, sharing the spoils in 26 of their 60 previous league meetings. Moreover, Torino have notched 24 wins compared to only 10 for Hellas Verona.

Torino have only conceded twice in their last six Serie A encounters against Hellas Verona. During that period, Il Toro didn’t concede a goal in four games.

Il Toro have also won each of their last three Serie A away games against the Gialloblu, their longest ongoing road-winning streak against a single Serie A opponent.

If Torino win or draw against Hellas Verona again on Friday, Paolo Vanoli will become the fourth Il Toro manager to stay undefeated in his first five games after Davide Nicola, Walter Mazzarri, and Franco Scoglio.

Betting Tip

As mentioned, the Serie A 2024 odds find it difficult to pick a winner from this contest on Friday. Because they’re evenly matched on paper, Hellas Verona and Torino are both priced at 2.60 to win, but we’re going for a draw at 3.02 here.

Other than going for a draw in this particular fixture, bettors may also choose to go for another low-scoring game, making alternatives like Under 2.50 at 1.64, Under 2.25 at 1.93, or even Total Goal 0-1 at 2.53.

Correct Scores of 0-0 and 1-1 are pegged at 7.80 and 5.70, respectively. However, if you fancy any win for either side by at least two goals, it should yield you at least 12.50 your bet.
