Despite the ups and downs that they’ve went through these past few weeks, AC Milan have stayed on top of the Serie A table, although they cannot take their foot off the gas pedal with fellow Scudetto challengers still lurking around.
Stefano Pioli’s side got a vital win against Genoa during the last matchday, and with them already out in the running for the Coppa Italia, it’s clear that they’re going all-in to win the Scudetto.
Elsewhere, Inter Milan are on a roll and will look to ruin their city rivals’ title hopes as they’re placed second and only two points behind, while third-placed Napoli’s mini-slump couldn’t have come at a worse time.
AC Milan are winning on and off the pitch
AC Milan have been on the Serie A 2022 news lately for the right reasons. Not only did they secure their first league win after their last three tries to pull them one step closer to the Scudetto, but they’re also on the verge of having new owners which would strengthen their finances.
I Rossoneri broke their goalless drought in their 2-0 win over Genoa as top scorer Rafael Leao and Junior Messias both found the back of the net in two halves. At the same time, their defence was hard to breach as I Rossoblu only had one shot on target all evening compared to the hosts’ five.
Fresh from the said victory, AC Milan are in advanced takeover talks with Bahrain-based fund Investcorp and both have entered a two-week exclusivity period to where they can iron out the negotiations and seal the deal amid other offers on the table to buy the club.
Elliott Management has been AC Milan’s owners since 2018 when previous owner Li Yonghong defaulted on debt obligations, and since then, the club’s valuation has jumped up to $1.1-B.
With Investcorp on the horizon, this means that the club is poised to bring in new players from the transfer market – including Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling.
The English forward is reportedly on top of AC Milan’s wishlist since they’re keen on boosting their frontline. Sterling’s current contract with the Sky Blues is set to expire in 2023, so he’ll need to decide regarding his future soon.
AC Milan are keen to invest on younger players for the long haul, and a young core of Raheem Sterling, Rafael Leao, Alexis Saelemaekers, Ismael Bennacer, and Sandro Tonali will surely make them competitive.
Inter Milan in hot pursuit, Napoli and Atalanta sliding down
Inter Milan have a rare opportunity to possibly claim two trophies this season as they’re within arm’s reach for both the Serie A and Coppa Italia title.
I Nerazzurri are unbeaten since February 21 and they’re fresh from convincing victories over Spezia and AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-final. Inter Milan have scored three goals each in those contests, while their opponents have only scored one total.
Napoli and Atalanta, on the other hand, are both winless lately. I Partenopei bottled their chance to grab all three points against I Giallorossi yesterday after losing to Fiorentina previously, while La Dea have fallen to eighth place and have bowed out of the Europa League with four straight defeats at the hands of RB Leipzig, Hellas Verona, Sassuolo, and Atalanta.
Lorenzo Insigne in particular was visibly frustrated when his team dropped points against AS Roma, and that image perfectly sums up what these two calcios are going through right now.
Intensifying race for the final Top 4 spot
Other than the Serie A title, the battle for the final Champions League spot is heating up. Fourth-placed Juventus have the edge so far as they’ve built a five-point lead, but they cannot take AS Roma and Fiorentina for granted since both teams are banging in form.
I Bianconeri were previously held to a 1-1 draw by Bologna, but two of their next three Serie A opponents are relegation-threatened, so their high SBOTOP Serie A 2022 odds are intact for the meantime.
Meanwhile, AS Roma are in a make-or-break situation as they’ll take on Inter Milan and Bologna before facing Leicester City for their Europa Conference League semi-final tie, while Fiorentina have Salernitana and Udinese on their menu before going up against AC Milan, AS Roma, and Sampdoria next.
Much has been said about Jose Mourinho doing wonders with I Giallorossi, but their mettle will be tested during these next few weeks. Fiorentina, on the other hand, should feel good about themselves since they’re coping well after losing Dusan Vlahovic last January.
