Inter Milan vs Atalanta
There are only three teams left who are undefeated here in Serie A and Inter Milan are one of them. The defending champions are off to a fantastic start and momentum is on their side when they host Atalanta this weekend.
With 13 points after the first five matches, the Milan clubs have taken over Serie A. I Nerazzurri manager Simone Inzaghi couldn’t have planned this better when he took over the coaching job after Antonio Conte’s departure.
On the other hand, Atalanta have 10 points and are placed fourth at the standings. They’ve been bothered by inconsistency lately, but Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have a rare opportunity to move up top with an away victory here.
This is expected to be a cracker of a match between these two sides. So today at SBOTOP, let’s examine these clubs here in this match preview.
Talking Points
When will Inter Milan’s streak end?
Many have doubted Inter Milan before this season, and understandably so, since they lost core players during the summer transfer window.
World-class striker Romelu Lukaku joined Chelsea while Achraf Hakimi and Ashley Young went to PSG and Aston Villa respectively.
But fast forward to today, Inter Milan are having a hot start because of their solidity on both ends of the pitch as they boast the most goals so far with 18 while conceding only five after the first five matchdays.
Granted, they have yet to face a top four side, it is still commendable on Simone Inzaghi’s part to have integrated his boys right off the jump.
Edin Dzeko is having a renaissance campaign under Simone Inzaghi since he’s their leading scorer with four goals and one assist. And he’s been backstopped by Lautaro Martinez, who has put in three.
Other than Dzeko and Martinez, there have been nine other players who have scored for I Nerazzurri this term this early, which is quite remarkable.
They are fresh from a victory versus Fiorentina last week with a 3-1 score as Edin Dzeko scored again while Ivan Perisic and Matteo Darmian have opened their accounts this term.
Another thing to note is that San Siro has been a fortress for Inter Milan. They are on a 19-match winning run at home stretching back to last season.
Atalanta lacking consistency
Atalanta’s rise in recent years from a mid-table club to a possible title contender can be attributed to their high-scoring ways. La Dea may have gotten away with it for a while, but this time around, they may have been exposed.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have pumped in six goals so far, but they’ve conceded four in return which is a bit of a concern.
Duvan Zapata has been their main attacking threat with two goals and two assists, but his strike partner in Luis Muriel has yet to score because he was sidelined for a couple of games due to injury.
On the defencive end, Atalanta are still coping with the losses of centre-back Cristian Romero and goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, who were both loaned to Tottenham.
The back three of Rafael Toloi, Merih Demiral, and Berat Djimsiti are doing all they can to fill in. However, they may need a little more time to fully develop their chemistry alongside goalkeeper Justin Musso.
History
Inter Milan often come out on top in their head-to-heads against Atalanta.
In their past 38 matches together, Inter Milan have won in 20 while Atalanta only won seven times along with 11 draws.
I Nerazzurri are undefeated in eight of their last nine fixtures against La Dea so they’ll be licking their chops upon meeting them again.
Their previous match last March ended in a 1-0 score for Inter Milan despite Atalanta having the better overall game statistics.
Inter only had one shot on target but they made it count as Milan Skriniar scored the only goal in the second half.

The Serie A 2021 odds point to a close affair at San Siro this Saturday.
Inter Milan have the slight edge as they’re installed at 2.02 to win, while Atalanta aren’t far behind at 3.60 and a draw is at 3.35 in the 1X2 market.
I Nerazzurri have been scoring at will lately and the trend shall continue with their roster intact for this weekend’s matchup. You can expect multiple Serie A 2021 highlights too while you’re at it.
La Dea can put in goals too given their plethora of attacking options. But if they’ll have an off-night scoring and their backline doesn’t hold up, Atalanta are going to have a long night at San Siro.
