On the other hand, Argentina are the same. Their defence remains susceptible, raising fears that they could collapse any time. Just look at what happened to them in their match with Croatia.
France have a fresh set of legs after resting key players such as Paul Pogba, Hugo Lloris and Samuel Umtiti in their draw with Denmark. Meanwhile, Argentina still have Lionel Messi and could pose a threat if they can show the same grit and “never say die” attitude that they displayed against Senegal.
I think this will be a really close encounter, and I’m not writing off a draw after 90 minutes.

Although many expected Uruguay to easily dominate the so-called “Group of Life,” it’s still hard to deny that they have been spectacular on both ends of the pitch. They kept a clean sheet in all of the group stage games while scoring six goals in the process.
Portugal, on the other hand, survived a tough group that included Spain. However, after their opening 3-3 draw with La Furia Roja, they barely won against Morocco (1-0) and even drew with Iran (1-1) in their final game.
Portugal have a pretty decent squad led by a game-changer in Cristiano Ronaldo, but I doubt that will be enough against a balanced Uruguay team boasting the deadly duo of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani—who both scored in a 3-0 drubbing of hosts Russia.

Russia got a reality check in their defeat to Uruguay. Backed by strong home support, they easily won their first two games before facing their biggest test…and, oh boy, did they flounder.
The Russians conceded two goals against Uruguay in the first half alone, including an own goal, proving that they are just not on par with the other powerhouses of world football.
Spain struggled a bit in the group stages; however, with their individual talent and depth, they managed to pull through to extend their unbeaten run to 23 games in all competitions.
Sure enough, Russian fans will look at Spain’s defensive lapses as an opportunity for the home team; not to mention that Russia drew with Spain 3-3 in a friendly last year.
Nevertheless, La Furia Roja have never lost against them in all of their previous meetings, and I don’t think it will change this time.
