USA vs Jamaica
The last time these two nations played a competitive match was in the semifinal of the 2015 Gold Cup. Now, two years later, they will once again meet, this time in the final of the continental tournament where they will put everything at stake.
Indeed, few online gambling pundits saw this matchup happening; but that doesn’t mean that their battle will lack the live betting flair that we often see during USA-versus-Mexico football games. In fact, one can just expect as much, especially that there’s a lot on the line for both teams.
Not to mention that they bring contrasting styles to the table – a recipe that makes for an exciting and action-packed finale.
For the US, it’s a chance for them to get their revenge on the Reggae Boyz who denied them a ticket to the final of the 2015 series. The Stars and Stripes already defeated the Jamaicans in a friendly last February, and they have every opportunity to repeat that feat considering their offence that has been thriving in the tournament – averaging two goals per game in five matches.
They have also been the best in the contest and unquestionably boast the deepest lineup, with their more prominent players – such as Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard and Jozy Altidore – called up before the quarterfinals.
Just recently as well, in their match with Costa Rica, Dempsey tied the all-time scoring record for the Yanks. So what better way to grace the final than breaking the record, right?
Jamaica, on the other hand, will look to make history as the first Caribbean nation to win the competition. They took down record-holders Mexico in a stunning fashion, so there’s no doubt that they are capable of holding their ground against the hosts.
Their defence—anchored by keeper Andre Blake—has also been sensational, conceding only two goals on their way to this stage. If they can neutralise the US attack just like they did to El Tri, the Americans will certainly have a hard time finding their groove.
Bruce Arena’s men have the home advantage playing at California but, in the words of Jamaica coach Theodore Whitmore, another “David slew Goliath” story isn’t far-fetched.
A win by the US will see them bag their sixth Gold Cup title, only one less than Mexico. Meanwhile, Jamaica’s victory will see them break the long-running domination of the USA, Mexico and Canada.
I think this will be a low-scoring affair which could even be decided by just one goal. With that in mind, betting on Goals Under 2.00 @ 2.00 should be a smart move. However, if you’re looking for a winner, Jamaica on Asian Handicap +1.00 @ 1.91seems like a good choice.
