Premier League: Wolves Sweep Will Boost Bournemouth’s Top 4 Stock

Bournemouth vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Bournemouth’s Top 4 charge continues this Saturday, as they will host the Wolves at the Vitality Stadium. Andoni Iraola’s side aims to build a new winning streak after defeating Southampton 3-1 last time out.

The Cherries are gunning for a coveted spot in European football, either in the Champions League or Europa League, and right now they are on the cusp. The fifth-seeded Bournemouth only have one loss since late November, and they sit a point back of fourth and four points off third place in the Premier League standings.

Meanwhile, the Wolves’ main objective is to get out of the relegation zone for good. Following their surprising 2-0 win against Aston Villa, Vitor Pereira’s men couldn’t muster a point against league leaders Liverpool, so they remain in 17th place with 19 points. The Wolves are approaching the lighter part of their schedule, but an away match against Bournemouth may not be one of them.

Talking Points

Bournemouth’s injury list has somewhat eased up

Bournemouth defeated Southampton last weekend. But more than the victory and three points, head coach Andoni Iraola was pleased to see two of his key players back in the mix. After long injury layoffs, Luis Sinisterra and Alex Scott came off the bench and did well in their cameos against the Saints.

Scott came on for Justin Kluivert in the 77th minute and contributed to the move that resulted in Marcus Tavernier’s third goal, playing Antoine Semenyo in for him to tee up the Englishman. Sinisterra was subbed in for Ryan Christie with two minutes left in regulation and almost had a chance to score.

According to reports, the Cherries will welcome back two more players to bolster the squad. Julio Soler and James Hill will return from youth international duty and injury, respectively, giving Iraola more options.

Besides Marcus Tavernier, Dango Ouattara and Ryan Christie scored for the Cherries, so they will likely keep their places up front alongside Antoine Semenyo and Justin Kluivert. Ryan Christie, Tyler Adams, Milos Kerkez, Dean Huijsen, Lewis Cook, Illia Zabarnyi, and Kepa Arrizabalaga will likely fill out the rest of the starting lineup against Wolves.

Wolves showing signs of life

Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory over Wolves, but Vitor Pereira’s men almost threatened to force a stalemate. After going down 2-0 courtesy of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah in the first half, the Wolves played with more ferocity in the second half.

Matheus Cunha will play a vital role for Wolves in their Premier League showdown with Bournemouth
Blackburn Rovers defender Dominic Hyam challenges Wolves forward Matheus Cunha during their FA Cup clash at Ewood Park

Matheus Cunha scored for the Wolves in the 67th minute, and his team eagerly searched for an equaliser. Their best chance came late in the game. Cunha fed Tommy Doyle on the right side before Doyle squared the ball to Marshall Munetsi in the middle of the box, but Jarell Quansah saved the day for the Reds with his spectacular tackle to prevent a certain goal.

With 16 total shots (compared to Liverpool’s 10), the Wolves need to tighten up defencively and be more clinical in the final third.

History

Bournemouth and Wolves have already faced off earlier this season, with the former securing a 4-2 win over the latter at the Molineux last November. Justin Kluivert notched a hat-trick and Milos Kerkez had one goal for Bournemouth, while Jorgen Strand Larsen recorded a brace for Wolves. These two sides will meet again on March 1 in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The Cherries have won three of their last four Premier League games against Wolves (L1), though they have come away from home. Bournemouth aim to sweep their season series against Wolves for the first time since 2014-15 in the Championship.

The Wolves are undefeated in their last four Premier League away matches against Bournemouth, alternating between a draw (2) and a victory (2) each time.

Betting Tip

The Premier League 2025 odds expect the Cherries to come out on top this weekend. Bournemouth are 1.57 favourites to win, whereas the Wolves are 4.68 underdogs, and a draw is at 3.96 in the 1X2 market. Wolves could put out another spirited effort at the Vitality Stadium, but it may not be enough to defeat the hosts.
