Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace
Antonio Conte may have had an up-and-down ride at the helm for Tottenham so far. But overall, he’s doing generally fine here in the Premier League.
Under his tutelage, Spurs are undefeated in their last four league matches and they’ll be looking to make it five straight when they’ll host Crystal Palace on Boxing Day.
Tottenham currently occupy the seventh spot in the standings with 26 points and a victory here could see themselves go up to fifth by the end of this weekend.
Meanwhile, their visitors in Crystal Palace are at 11th with 20 points. And after enduring a rough stretch of poor Premier League 2021 results these past few weeks, the Eagles will want to close out 2021 on a strong note.
This Sunday marks the second time that they’ll square off this season and Eagles fans will fondly remember what happened in the last time out.
Crystal Palace got the better of Tottenham in a wire-to-wire victory before, but will we see a repeat of the said result this weekend?
Talking Points
Tottenham are barely scratching the surface
The Spurs have yet to hit their full stride since the appointment of Antonio Conte and things should only get better from here on out.
As shown in their 2-2 draw against Liverpool and 2-1 win over West Ham United in the EFL Cup quarter-finals, Tottenham are capable of going toe-to-toe against the best sides today.
This certainly gives Spurs fans renewed optimism especially following their COVID-19 outbreak not too long ago, where several key players had to miss time.
Heung-Min Son was one of those who contracted the coronavirus and it’s good to see him back after scoring the late equaliser vs. Liverpool, while strike partner Harry Kane punched in his second Premier League goal.
Along with those two, Conte have more options up front since Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn are also in fine form, scoring one goal apiece in Tottenham’s win over the Hammers yesterday.
Now with a full squad to choose from, Tottenham are in much better shape compared to few weeks ago and they’re going to be a force to be reckoned with.
Crystal Palace are no longer a one-man team
For the longest time, Crystal Palace have been generally poor without Wilfried Zaha leading the way, but it seems that Patrick Vieira has solved that issue.
The Ivorian winger still has five goals under his belt and he has only missed one game, but a new star has emerged at Selhurst Park.
Enter Conor Gallagher, who was brought in on loan from Chelsea, as the young midfielder tops their charts with six goals and three assists.
Prior to joining Crystal Palace, Gallagher spent time at Charlton, Swansea, and West Brom since Chelsea can’t provide an avenue for him to excel given their deep lineup.
Now that he’s enjoying his best form, Chelsea are faced with a conundrum since Crystal Palace are reportedly willing to take Gallagher off their hands via transfers.
Chelsea can adopt an approach similar to what Manchester City did to Ferran Torres when he has agreed to join Barcelona recently, since it’ll definitely give them a tidy profit.
History
Tottenham have been the better club in this particular head-to-head matchup. In their 60 meetings prior to Boxing Day, the Spurs have won 32 times while the Eagles won in 13 along with 15 draws.
Spurs have lost just one of their 12 league home games against the Eagles (W7, D4), with their only defeat happening way back in 1997. Tottenham have won their last six league home matches against Crystal Palace with a whopping aggregate of 13-1.
Crystal Palace, however, defeated Tottenham comprehensively with a 3-0 scoreline in their reverse fixture as Wilfried Zaha scored once while Odsonne Edouard listed a brace when Tottenham were reduced to 10 men.
Should the Eagles win again, it’ll be the first time ever that they’ll achieve a league double over Tottenham.

Tottenham fans are going to be happy to take a look at the SBOTOP Premier League 2021 odds since they’re favoured to win in this Boxing Day affair.
Spurs are installed at 1.76, while Crystal Palace are priced at 4.50 to win and a draw is at 3.60 in the 1×2 market.
Momentum is on the side of Spurs and we feel that they’ll maintain their upward trajectory on Boxing Day.
Crystal Palace can certainly pose problems for Tottenham, but the hosts should have enough to take home all three points – and possibly secure a higher place at the table.
