Premier League: Scary Hours Ahead for Manchester United

With a three-game winning streak here in the Premier League, Manchester United’s top four push is still alive, and they can further strengthen their claim with a victory against Luton Town on Sunday.

The Red Devils are currently in sixth place with 41 points, only trailing by six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham. All in all, Erik ten Hag’s men are also unbeaten in their last six games across all competitions.

And following the ratification of the INEOS takeover by the league recently, things are suddenly looking up at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Luton Town are in 17^th place with 20 points, which is only one point ahead of Everton. They are winless in their last two games, so pressure is building up at Kenilworth Road.

Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris’ goalscoring exploits have carried over to the Premier League this season. Adebayo, who scored a hat-trick against Brighton two weeks ago, is currently the Hatters’ leading scorer with nine goals, while Morris currently has six goals and five assists under his belt.

Ross Barkley, Chiedozie Ogbene, and Jacob Brown, on the other hand, have three goals apiece.

But other than these players, the Red Devils will also have to look out for Tahith Chong and Teden Mengi, two of their academy products.

Tahith Chong has found a new home at Kenilworth Road after bouncing around, and he has recorded two goals this season, including the crucial one in their 1-1 draw against Liverpool. After leaving Old Trafford in 2022, the Dutch winger played for Birmingham City last season.

Teden Mengi, meanwhile, joined the Hatters last summer after spending four years at Manchester United. Mengi managed to score his first senior goal in their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last November, and the 21-year-old centre-back has become one of the most underrated defenders in the English top-flight.

Goals are flowing for Manchester United

Manchester United are tipped to create a ton of Premier League 2024 highlights on Sunday because they have scored a total of 17 goals during their six-game unbeaten run across all competitions.

Eight different players have scored during this stretch, with Rasmus Hojlund leading the way with five goals. The 21-year-old striker was written off earlier this season because of his struggles, so it’s nice to see him silence his doubters.

The viral picture of Hojlund, Mainoo, and Garnacho during their 3-0 win against West Ham United has Manchester United fans dreaming of a brighter future.

In other news, Erik ten Hag said that Luke Shaw will likely remain in the starting XI, despite being withdrawn for precautionary measures last Sunday against Aston Villa.

Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the notable names on the Red Devils’ injury list right now.

History

Luton Town and Manchester United have already faced off earlier this season. On November 11, 2023, it was the Red Devils who came away with a 1-0 victory, as Victor Lindelof scored the only goal of the match right before the hour mark.

Manchester United are undefeated in their last 12 meetings with Luton Town in all competitions (W10, D2). Their last loss to the Hatters was a 2-1 defeat at Kenilworth Road in March 1987.

The last time that these two sides met at Kenilworth Road was in April 1992, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Red Devils have won their last 11 Premier League matches against newly promoted sides while conceding only five times in this period. Should they win again this weekend, Manchester United will match their best winning run between 2011 and 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson (W12).
