Premier League: Arsenal Hoping to Hold Off Hungry Wolves Again

countdown banner

Arsenal vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of the most in-form clubs in the Premier League at the moment. They have won six of their last eight matches and are now knocking on the door of the top four.

Another victory for Wolves in their upcoming match against Arsenal at the Emirates would see them overtake the Gunners for sixth place in the Premier League table.

However, Mikel Arteta’s men are regaining their form and just beat Wolves at Molineux in their first meeting earlier this month despite going down to 10 men. The Premier League 2022 betting odds will now favour them to complete the double at home.

Talking Points

Gunners getting back on track

After a disappointing five-game winless run (two draw, three defeats), Arsenal are back on the right path once again. The Gunners have now won back-to-back games after beating Brentford 2-1 at home.

Youngsters Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka both scored to end their respective goalscoring droughts.

The Gunners have been struggling for goals of late, which has been a major factor in their recent slump. Prior to their last two wins, they had failed to score in their previous four games.

TO SEE UPDATED ODDS

The good news for the Gunners is that Gabriel Martinelli, who was sent off in the first meeting against Wolves, will be back after serving out his one-match suspension against Brentford. The Brazilian has been a bright spot offensively with four goals and two assists.

But Smith Rowe – the club’s leading scorer with nine Premier League goals – may have done enough to retain his starting spot after his strong performance on the weekend.

Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette looks set to lead the line once again. The Frenchman has not scored since Boxing Day, but he has at least been contributing in other ways to the attack. He has supplied an assist in each of Arsenal’s last two games.

Arsenal have a terrific home record this season. They’ve won eight of 12 games at the Emirates, with two draws and two defeats, which were against Chelsea and Manchester City. Moreover, they have conceded just nine goals in 12 games, tied for the second-best home defensive record.

Wolves have more weapons

Bruno Lage’s brilliant debut season in the Premier League continues. The Portuguese coach has Wolves riding high in seventh after a terrific run of Premier League 2022 results: six wins in eight games, with one draw and one defeat. During that time, they held Chelsea to a draw and beat both Manchester United and Tottenham away.

Wolves’ away form has been a major factor in their success this season. They have won seven of 12 games, including their last four in a row. They have also conceded just eight times, tied with Man City and Chelsea for the best defensive away record, although they have both played one game more.

Premier League: Bruno Lage is set to visit Emirates Stadium with Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves are coming off a 2-1 home win over struggling Leicester this past weekend, their second straight win since losing to Arsenal. The in-form Ruben Neves scored once again, while forward Daniel Podence got his first goal of the season.

Scoring goals has been a big challenge for Wolves all season; they’ve scored just 23 goals in 24 games, the third-lowest total in the Premier League.

But Bruno Lage will have his full complement of forward options behind Raul Jimenez and Daniel Podence. South Korean Hwang Hee-Chan, who has three goals this season, has returned from injury and has come on as a substitute in the last two games. Meanwhile, Pedro Neto finally made his return after 10 months out due to injury.

History

Arsenal and Wolves have met 15 times in the Premier League. Arsenal hold a 9-3 advantage in wins, while there have been three draws.

Wolves had more than held their own against the Gunners in recent years, though. In their last nine matches, they’ve won three times, with three draws. Moreover, they have gone unbeaten in their last four trips to the Emirates.

Although, Arsenal did beat Wolves 1-0 just a few weeks ago. Gabriel Magalhaes gave them the lead, and they held on for the last 20 minutes with 10 men after Gabriel Martinelli was sent off.

Betting Tip

??
Arsenal vs Wolverhampton Wanderers1X2 Draw @ 3.65
February 25, 03:45 (GMT+8)

Despite Wolves’ fine form, SBOTOP odds still have them as clear 5.20 underdogs away to Arsenal, who are installed as significant 1.65 favourites. A draw is at 3.65.

With the strong defences on display, it would not at all be surprising if this match also turned out to be a low-scoring affair like their first meeting a few weeks ago. Moreover, it wouldn’t be a surprise if there were no winner. Wolves have a strong track record at the Emirates and will be desperate not to lose more ground to the Gunners, who still have their share of question marks in attack.
