Premier League: Arsenal are Gunning for Glory

countdown banner

The race for Premier League glory comes down to a three-horse race between Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal.

All three teams have a good chance of becoming the English League champions when the season is done and dusted, but the team that has been the hottest among the three is Arteta’s Gunners.

Arsenal have been perfect in the Premier League since the start of the new year, winning all seven of their top-flight matches this year thus far.

Their latest showing of dominance was against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, where Arteta and his men audaciously thrashed the Blades in front of their home  fans with a 0-6 score line.

Five different Arsenal players found the back of the net during the tie, while Jayden Bogle added insult to injury by scoring an own goal to dig a deeper hole for his side.

It was definitely a night to remember for Arsenal and their fans, and a night to forget for all the Blades crowd in attendance.

With that dominant win, Arsenal now boast the most potent offence in the whole Premier League with 68 goals scored, while also conceding the least amount of goals with 23. They are currently third in the title race, trailing behind Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Gunners are just a point behind Manchester City and two points behind current leaders Liverpool, so a win against the struggling Brentford in their next Premier League tie could send Arteta and his men to the summit of the league standings once again.

Everton’s 10-point penalty was reduced to six

Everton were initially sanctioned with a 10-point penalty for financial breaches in the 2021–22 season after the club admitted to making losses in excess of £105 million.

But in the latest Premier League 2024 news, the EPL recently confirmed that the sanction slapped on the Toffees has been reduced from 10 to six points.

“Although the club is still digesting the decision of the independent commission – which determined the sanction – we are pleased that the appeal has resulted in a reduction in points,” Everton stated.

With this lighter sanction, the Toffees found themselves moving up the Premier League standings from the 17th spot to the 15th, moving them five points clear of the relegation zone.

Sky Blues dominate the Manchester Derby

Jim Ratcliffe’s first Manchester Derby was spoiled by the visiting Sky Blues after claiming a 3-1 victory at Etihad Stadium.

The Red Devils were up 1-nil by halftime, which was a great concern for City fans in attendance, as United usually don’t let these types of leads slip away.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden celebrates scoring their 2nd goal against Manchester United

Luckily for Manchester City, Phil Foden showed why Pep Guardiola considers him the best player in the entire Premier League. The 23-year-old midfielder claimed the second half and single-handedly gave City the lead by scoring two consecutive goals, while Erling Haaland scored a goal in the dying minutes of the game to close the door on the Red Devils.

Manchester City needed this win to keep the pressure on Liverpool and Arsenal in the upper echelon of the league, while it was more of a personal pride for Manchester United that fueled them coming into the game.

City shot the ball 27 times to United’s three. City also dominated possessions, passes, and pass accuracies by a large margin, but United’s head coach, Erik ten Hag, still claims that his Red Devils are not far apart from Pep’s Sky Blues.

“No, I don’t think so, absolutely not,” Ten Hag stated after the match. “We have many problems with injuries, and still we had an opportunity. Really small margins.”

Liverpool show no signs of slowing down

Klopp’s Liverpool are on a high after recently advancing to the FA Cup quarterfinals and winning the EFL Cup against Chelsea at Wembley Stadium while remaining at the summit of the Premier League standings to boot.

Despite these successes, the Reds kept their foot on the gas and dismantled the relegation candidates, Luton Town, with a 4-1 win at Anfield. That pivotal win keeps them ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal in the standings.

But despite their recent surge and accomplishments gained along the way, they’re still second to Manchester City in the SBOTOP Premier League 2024 betting odds with a price of 4.00 to win the season, while the Sky Blues are still the favourites at 2.30.

It’ll be a tough task for the Reds to maintain their standing in the league table, especially with City and Arsenal breathing down their necks.

The road to the title will only get harder for Klopp and Liverpool, particularly in the next few days, as they’ll go against Pep’s Manchester City just two days after battling Sparta Praha in the Europa League Round of 16.
