Crystal Palace are starting to turn their fortunes around after going unbeaten in four of their last five Premier League matches. However, they still have a long way to go because they’re the 17th seed with 13 points. This weekend, the Eagles are off to the AMEX Stadium to face Brighton on Sunday.

Brighton have fallen out of the top four after a bright (no pun intended) start to the season. Fabian Hurzeler’s side is now the seventh seed following a recent lacklustre run of Premier League 2024 results, and they’re growing desperate for a victory. They are level with the eighth-seeded Bournemouth, with 24 points.

Too many missed opportunities for Brighton

Brighton would’ve stayed in the top four if they didn’t drop points in their last three games. The Seagulls were held by the Saints and the Foxes, and they lost convincingly against the Cottagers after beating Bournemouth 2-1.

Brighton were poised to beat Southampton after Kaoru Mitoma gave the team a one-goal lead near the half-hour mark. However, they conceded an equaliser from Flynn Downes 30 minutes later, so they settled for a point. Brighton had it worse against Leicester City last weekend, as they squandered a two-goal lead after conceding late goals from Jamie Vardy and Bobby Decordova-Reid.

The Seagulls are determined to beat the Eagles, and they received an injury boost on the defencive side of the pitch. Joel Veltman could return to the squad after missing the last three games due to a muscular injury. Ferdi Kadioglu, Jack Hinshelwood, Adam Webster, James Milner, and Solly March are unlikely to play since they haven’t fully recovered.

Scoring goals won’t be a problem for Fabian Hurzeler’s side because they have Danny Welbeck, Joao Pedro, and Kaoru Mitoma all in fine form. Daniel Munoz has been solid in his debut season with the Eagles, as he has locked down one of the two wing-back spots in the starting XI. The 28-year-old has also shown his scoring touch during the team’s draws against Newcastle United and Manchester City.

The Colombian international rescued Crystal Palace from the jaws of defeat against Newcastle United by scoring the added-time equaliser after an own goal by teammate Marc Guehi. He scored his second goal of the season in just the first four minutes against Manchester City. Daniel Munoz has been a huge bargain for Crystal Palace since they only acquired him for €8 million this summer.

Besides Daniel Munoz, Brighton would also have to look out for Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is Crystal Palace’s leading scorer with four league goals and one assist.

The Seagulls have won their last two Premier League games against the Eagles held at the AMEX Stadium. Brighton are one of the three teams still undefeated on home soil in the Premier League this season (W3, D4) alongside Arsenal and Brentford. Since the start of last season, Brighton have conceded 37 goals, doing so in 10 of their last 11 games.

The Eagles are winless in their last six league games against the Seagulls (D4, L2), which is their longest winless run against them since a run of 10 between 1979 and 1986. However, Crystal Palace are undefeated in their last three Premier League away matches (W1, D2).
