Premier League: 10 Days and Counting in Crazy Summer Window

countdown banner

There’s just under 10 days remaining of the summer transfer window for Premier League teams.

Following more than two months of hectic activity, it may appear that all the main business is now done.

Yet while I would largely agree, that’s not to say there won’t be one or two moves to get people talking between now and the bewitching hour on the night of September 1.

The first three weeks of Premier League highlights will have alerted some managers to obvious gaps and weaknesses, while luckless injuries may also have played a part in prompting bosses to go back into the market.

There’s certainly potential for some ins and outs to alter the state of the SBOTOP Premier League betting odds in the next week and a half.

So, who may still be on the move?

Well, despite an incredible spending spree, Chelsea may not quite have finished.

They are among a number of clubs being linked with a move for Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun.

Arsenal’s valuation of the 22-year-old, believed to be in the region of £50 million, has meant Chelsea have not made an offer as things stand.

But with the need for a striker after new man Christopher Nkunku was ruled out for an extended period, don’t be surprised if they swoop for the American who enjoyed an excellent campaign on loan at Ligue 1 side Reims last season, scoring 22 goals.

One man on the verge of joining the champions is Jeremy Doku.

Potentially a replacement for Riyad Mahrez after his move to the Saudi Pro League, Manchester City are close to completing the £55.4m signing of the winger who has 16 caps for Belgium and came through the ranks at Anderlecht before joining Rennes in 2020.

He is seemingly moving to the Premier League after three injury-hit years in France.

It’s not just established clubs that are active in the market.

Newly promoted Sheffield United are reportedly closing on an £18.5m move for the Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer, in a major boost in the club’s fight for Premier League survival.

The Blades are hoping the 21 year-old can replicate his prolific goalscoring record at Championship level in the top flight.

Archer spent the second half of last season on loan at Middlesbrough, after a fruitful spell in the second tier at Preston the previous year. He entered as a late substitute for Villa against Everton last Sunday but the club has decided its academy graduate is best served playing regularly elsewhere.

Manager Paul Heckingbottom made it clear after defeat at Nottingham Forest last Friday that he wanted to bolster his attacking options after the sale of Iliman Ndiaye, top scorer last season, to Marseille.

Talking of Forest, they have announced the loan signing of Argentina’s World Cup-winning full-back Gonzalo Montiel from Sevilla.

He scored the decisive penalty as his country beat France in the 2022 World Cup final and also netted the winning spot-kick in last season’s Europa League final.

Forest boss Steve Cooper’s fifth signing of the summer, he moves to the City Ground on a season-long loan deal which could become a permanent move next year.

Interestingly, Manchester United and Liverpool target Sofyan Amrabat has been left out of Fiorentina’s squad for the Europa Conference League amid speculation about his future.

Fiorentina are set to face Rapid Vienna in the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off tie on Thursday evening, but they will be without Amrabat.

The Moroccan midfielder had been included in their initial squad for the competition, but has not made the trip to Austria after being an unused substitute on the opening weekend.

Away from actual and likely deals, there’s no shortage of rumours either.

Leicester City’s bid for an immediate Premier League return could suffer if Crystal Palace can steal Kelechi Iheanacho away this month.

While the fact Lucas Paqueta, who may have moved to City from West Ham before the FA launched an investigation into the player’s potential betting breaches, now is staying put in east London, may well have knocked £70m off the Hammers’ transfer kitty as they chase Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus and Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri.

As I close, I am hearing Wolves’ impressive midfielder Matheus Nunes is attracting the interest of City.

There are more eye-catching moves to come over the next 10 days, mark my words!
