Premier League: Who’s the Better United?

Sheffield United vs. Manchester United

The Premier League action resumes at the Bramall Lane, where Sheffield United are set to host Manchester United for the league’s 13th match day.

The host team — who is surprising us all with their strong performance early this season — has carved their way to the top-five spot thanks to the inspired play of their players and brilliant coaching by Chris Wilder.

Sheffield United currently have 17 points, while Manchester United have improved to 16 points (good for seventh at the table) after experiencing a turbulent start for the season.

Most critics must be having a laugh with the way the Red Devils have been underperforming under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. For a while, it seemed like he was on his way out as the prestigious club became one of this season’s early relegation candidates.

But in ways that most wouldn’t expect, Manchester United are back in the mix for at least a top-six spot and a win over the new boys should give them a huge boost.

Today, SBOBET is here to talk ahead for this match on Monday.

Talking points

Sheffield United putting the league on notice

The Blades were coming into this term with low expectations after being just promoted to top-flight status. After all, this was their first chance back since being unceremoniously dumped to second tier back in 2007.

But as they continue to maintain a low profile and work hard, Sheffield United have emerged as one of the most dangerous teams in the Premier League.

They aren’t really known for their attacking prowess as they’ve scored only 13 goals so far this season. However, it’s their defence that has been doing the trick for them given they’ve conceded only nine goals, which is good for second-best in the league.

Team boss Chris Wilder has developed a strong system since his appointment at the helm in 2016. The 52-year-old tactician implements a 3-5-2 scheme where their wing-backs and centre-backs provide brute force and enough versatility to add more weight their attack.

John Egan has been big at the backline for Sheffield, while the likes of Chris Basham and Jack O’Connell often do double duties for either the attack or the defence.

George Baldock and Oliver Norwood are normally the playmakers at the middle, while Lys Mousset and John Lundstram are the ones providing the goals for Chris Wilder with three each.

Dean Henderson has done an admirable job in manning the goal post after being loaned out by Manchester United few months ago. But with the league’s tight rules on loan players, Henderson might have to sit this game out.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if John Egan will sit this one out either, as he suffered a calf injury while playing for Republic of Ireland last time against Denmark. Their other role players would have to step up for the time being.

Man Utd’s youth movement

The Red Devils are still far away from where they’re supposed to be, but at least they aren’t much of a laughingstock compared to few weeks ago.

They now have an opportunity to build off of their little momentum which includes some key wins against Brighton and Norwich City, and a highly-contested draw against Liverpool.

Much of their success recently can be owed to the brilliance of their young turks. Marcus Rashford is one of the league leaders in scoring with six goals, while Anthony Martial have provided three goals and three assists this campaign. Scott McTominay and Daniel James have also scored three each for Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s approach to hasten their youth development has been paying dividends, and they should produce more attacking opportunities plus some Premier League 2019 highlights as we go along.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire continues to lead the backline for the Red Devils, and that area will be more effective when they’ll get back the likes of Ashley Young, Nemanja Matic, Axel Tuanzebe, and Luke Shaw.

Jesse Lingard still is the wildcard for Manchester United as he’s performed below expectations and it remains to be seen on whether he’ll snap out of his funk soon.

History

Since winning over the Red Devils in their first ever Premier League matchup in 1992, the Blades have lost each of their five matches against them in top-flight.

The said match is famous for producing the first ever goal in the league’s decorated history, as Brian Deane kicked in one for Sheffield during the first five minutes.

Manchester United have won their last seven meetings with Sheffield United in all competitions, with an aggregate tally of 14-1.

Sheffield United are gunning for their third consecutive home win in top-flight for the first time since 1993.

Betting tip

Our Premier League 2019 odds have pegged Manchester United at 2.24, Sheffield United at 3.30, and a draw 3.10 in the 1×2 which would indicate a close match ahead.

This is primed to be an exciting match as the winner will have the bragging rights of sorts to be called the better “United” team this season.

Tactical-wise, it’s going to be a battle of physicality versus speed, and football fans like me should definitely enjoy this mouthwatering fixture ahead.
