Premier League: Spurs Looking to Shake Off Rough Start

Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace

The Spurs are looking to find their groove in the ongoing Premier League season as they host Crystal Palace in the White Hart Lane on Saturday, September 14th.

Crystal Palace are currently at the fourth of the table with seven points (W2, L1, D1) while Tottenham are at ninth with five points (W1, L2, D1).

The Eagles are riding on a two-game winning streak with victories over Manchester United and Aston Villa, and they’ll hope to sustain their recent form as they aim to get more wins this season.

Meanwhile, the Mauricio Pochettino-mentored Tottenham are yet to find their footing ever since they last won against Aston Villa in the first matchday.

Can the home team finally get a win in their pitch this time against the streaking Eagles? SBOBET takes a quick look.

Talking Points

Mauricio Pochettino’s to-do list

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will have some decisions to make especially given their current situation. With his club trying to move forward, he will have the unenviable task of finding the right mix for this upcoming game.

Pochettino may be delighted that the transfer window has just closed, but he would have to talk and negotiate with some of his players placed in transfer rumours before.

For starters, the 47-year-old manager has done a good job in securing Christian Eriksen’s services at least until January next year, especially when he previously announced his intention to a possible change of scenery.

Other players like Victor Wanyama and Serge Aurier were also rumoured to possibly leave the Spurs since they’re not getting as much playing time as they’d like. Once again, it will be up to Pochettino on how to deal with those two players as they look for opportunities to play.

Another crucial decision that Pochettino will have to make is on whether who gets to play at the right-back position for the foreseeable future. Davinson Sanchez has struggled over there over these past few fixtures and his skillset won’t really contribute much to the team’s attack.

Kyle Walker-Peters looks to be the ideal fit for that, but his fitness levels still remains a question. He could also consider using the likes of Eric Dier or even Serge Aurier for the meantime as well.

Who will score for Crystal Palace?

Crystal Palace have made an auspicious start to the league season. They had an opening day draw against Everton, a loss to Sheffield United, and back-to-back victories against Manchester United and Aston Villa.

For a squad that finished only 12th last season, they will be looking to sustain their momentum hoping to break into the top half of the table.

The key reason to their success so far is their defence. So far in their first four games, the Eagles have only conceded two goals and they have a higher defence rating than average for teams outside of the top half.

However, Roy Hodgson would have to work on his boys’ attacking as they are only ranked 13th in the league on that department, and here’s where a guy like Wilfried Zaha should come in.

The Ivory Coast-based forward will be tasked to carry much of the load on offence for Selhurst Park. Last season, he scored 10 goals and assisted on five which was nearly 30-per cent of the team’s total scores.

If the Eagles plan on staying at the upper half of the table throughout the season, Wilfried Zaha would have to replicate (or increase) his output from last season. Jordan Ayew and Jeffrey Schlupp should help him as well.

History

Prior to this fixture, the Spurs have pretty much dominated the Eagles. They won 30 games against them with the latter winning only in 12.

In fact, Tottenham have been victorious over Crystal Palace by winning in 10 out of their 12 Premier League games together since Crystal Palace’s promotion back in 2013.

This year, these two clubs have split in their two meetings. Crystal Palace won against Tottenham last January with a 2-0 score while the latter won last April in their first game at their renovated stadium with the same tally.

Betting Tip

??
Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace Spurs Asian Handicap -1.25 @1.82
September 14, 22:00 (GMT+8)

Per Premier League 2019 odds, Tottenham are at 1.36 to win, while Crystal Palace are placed lowly at 7.80. On the other hand, there are 4.80 odds for a draw between these two clubs.

Expect a rejuvenated Tottenham to give their fans some of the best Premier League 2019 highlights in this match, especially with Christian Eriksen’s future secure for the meantime.

Palace will look to frustrate the Spurs with their defence, but their relative lack of firepower makes it hard for me to bet on them in this game.

I see a 2-0 win for Tottenham in this one.
