Premier League: Red Devils Are Ready For Some Lancashire Hotpot!

countdown banner

Burnley vs Manchester United

What better way to follow the Christmas celebrations than to head to Lancashire for a tasty dish full of heat and spice.

That’s exactly what we’re hoping for when Premier League: Burnley vs Manchester United is the Saturday treat on offer at Turf Moor. It’s going to be bitterly cold up in East Lancashire, so it’s no place for the feint-heated, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have his players primed for the test. They head to Burnley on the back of a morale boosting victory over Newcastle United and will have high hopes for a second win in three days.

The very latest SBOBET odds have Manchester United as favourites, marginally odds on, but any result is possible if Sean Dyche’s Clarets are in the mood.

Talking Points

Red Devils recover from Watford wobble

Manchester United have been far too hit and miss this season, you can never be entirely sure what you’re going to get.

David de Gea’s form has been a cause for concern over the past 12 months; at times he looks like the best goalkeeper on the planet but then he’s dropped more howlers than his ability warrants, the last consigning the Red Devils to defeat at bottom club Watford.

But Solskjaer’s team responded brilliantly to despatch Newcastle 4-1 on Boxing day with Anthony Martial scoring twice and Mason Greenwood hitting a screamer.

Paul Pogba made a surprise appearance for the last 20 minutes of the carnage at Vicarage Road, and he was head and shoulders above anyone on the pitch, with a superb array of passes that, with more time, would have surely unlocked the Hornets’ defence. And he came off the bench again against the Magpies. Both Real Madrid and Juventus are tracking his progress at Old Trafford but Solskjaer is apparently keen to keep him at Manchester United.

Dwight’s all right for Clarets

As a team which is always more than the sum of its parts Burnley is not known for its superstars. Sean Dyche prefers hard men with Premier League quality and players who will run through a brick wall for the team, leaving their egos at home. So a player with such star quality as Dwight McNeil can keep his feet firmly on the ground.

An injury to Robbie Brady gave the young winger his chance around this time last year, and he was a shining light in the Clarets’ impressive second half of the 2018/19 campaign, making the most assists in Europe’s top leagues of any teenager. He’s a great source of supply for Burnley’s two strikers, Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes. Having watched Watford’s Troy Deeney bully the United defence last week, Dyche rested his battle hardy striker Barnes for the Boxing day meeting with Everton.

In their Boxing day fixture the Clarets went down to an 80th minute header by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, giving Carlo Ancelotti a flying start as Everton boss, and Dyche will be looking for a response against the Red Devils.

History

Solskjaer’s team has had the better of the head-to-head Burnley vs Manchester United results, winning 36 of the 82 meetings, while the Clarets have won 29 and there have been 17 draws.

Three of those draws have been over the last six meetings, the most recent being a 2-2 result at Old Trafford in January. Barnes and Wood gave the Clarets a 0-2 lead before United roared back with an injury time equaliser.

The Red Devils have struggled on their travels recently, winning just one match in their last five trips, while before their reversal to Everton, Burnley had back-to-back wins over Newcastle and Bournemouth, with neither of their opponents registering a single shot on target.

Betting Tip

??
Burnley vs Manchester United Under 2.50 goals @ 1.92
December 27, 01:30 (GMT+8)

The latest Burnley vs Manchester United betting odds have the visitors slightly odds on to win this game at 1.94, while the draw is at 3.45 and Burnley are at 3.80 to win.

The Clarets have been much stronger at home than on their travels, while the Red Devils have struggled to win away. But a big home win against Newcastle will have their fans hoping they are about to climb the table and launch an attack on the European places.

Manchester United should have the quality to carve out chances, but they will have to work hard to break through a resolute Burnley defence, while Solskjaer’s own defenders will know they have been in a game.

I expect both teams to score and 1-1 at odds of 6.20 is the most likely score line. That would probably suit Burnley more than their visitors.
