Tottenham vs Manchester United
Manchester United look to exorcise their demons when they visit Tottenham this weekend.
Red Devils fans will surely remember how their reverse fixture with the Spurs went, as it was a case of pure humiliation for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
It looked like it was a tennis set since the score ended at 6-1 as the dynamic duo of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son ran riot with a couple of braces.
But since then, a lot has changed between these two squads as both are occupying different spots at the Premier League standings.
Back then, the Spurs were one of the top dogs in the English top-flight. However, they’re now sitting at the sixth spot with 49 points and they are in danger of missing out an Europa League qualification next term.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils bounced back nicely although another Premier League title would’ve been ideal. But still, they are solo at second place with 60 points.
Recent Premier League 2021 results favour Manchester United but their former manager in Jose Mourinho will look to use his familiarity with the Red Devils to recapture their lethal form.
Talking points
Manchester United are clicking again
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his boys will be coming to North London confident after kicking off April in style.
After bowing out to the FA Cup against Leicester City, Manchester United picked up wins over Brighton in the Premier League and Granada in their Europa League tie.
Against Brighton, Manchester United had a slow start after giving up a goal from academy graduate Danny Welbeck during the first half. However, they flipped the switch late and stole the victory.
Against Granada, it was a different story as the Red Devils drew first blood and never looked back – buoyed by goals from Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba.
Since his arrival to Old Trafford last year, Bruno Fernandes has emerged as their talisman but that has increased the pressure on his shoulders. Doubters have been critical on the attacking midfielder, saying that he only performs well against the lower-tier teams in England.
After being relatively quiet against Granada yesterday, Fernandes should be able to re-assert himself against the Spurs.
Meanwhile, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Scott McTominay are all expected to be featured in the starting lineup since they’ll sit out the second leg against Granada because they were booked in the previous game.
Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, and Daniel James will play a lot too with Anthony Martial out for the season while Edinson Cavani should serve as their 12th man.
All is not lost for Tottenham
Jose Mourinho’s tenure at Tottenham remains under intense scrutiny after a rollercoaster campaign.
Tottenham are still fighting to keep their European qualification hopes alive. However, their results need to improve if they plan on making a late run.
The Spurs could’ve made it four wins in their last five if only they closed out Newcastle last week, but Harry Kane’s brace was gone to naught as a late Joe Willock goal saw both teams share the spoils.
Those droppage in points saw Mourinho throw his team under the bus once more, which fuels more speculation regarding him and the players’ future with the club.
Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son will remain as their top attacking threats while Carlos Vinicius, Lucas Moura, Gareth Bale, and Erik Lamela can help in that regard.
Their inexperienced backline, however, is their weakest point. And if they can’t solve their issues defencively, they might be in for a long night.
History
History favours Manchester United when looking at their sample size against Tottenham.
In their last 49 games, the Red Devils have the significant edge in the head-to-heads with 30 victories, whereas Tottenham have only won nine along with 10 draws.
The Red Devils won four of their last six meetings versus the Spurs in the last four years.

The updated Premier League 2021 odds here at SBOTOP point to a contrasting outcome of the reverse fixture.
Manchester United and Tottenham are closely priced together in the 1X2 market with odds to win at 2.49 and 2.85 respectively, while a draw is at 3.15.
In the end, I am expecting the Red Devils to pull this one out maybe via a late goal as their current team looks much different compared to before.
The month of April so far has been good to Manchester United and I am looking for them to continue their win streak this weekend.
