Watford vs Manchester City
Fans of the most popular league in the world have plenty of reasons to celebrate for the arrival of the last month of the year.
A lot of people are in the holiday spirit and are looking forward to the festivities in store. Fans of struggling Premier League sides are ecstatic because the January transfer window is about to open. For the rest of the neutrals, this month means a lot more exciting games will be played as this month is a chock-full of interesting fixtures!
One such fixture that will make many spectators and punters intrigued with the Watford vs Manchester City game. The fixture has all the makings of a David-versus-Goliath duel: the minnows of Watford will try to stop a rampaging Manchester City team from continuing their winning ways.
The various Watford vs Manchester City predictions are obviously tilted in favour of the Sky Blues, but we don’t know how things will turn out until the final whistle is blown. Let’s take a peek at how things are at these two clubs and figure out if Watford have a shot at pulling off an upset.
Talking Points
Manchester City can’t stop winning
Manchester City can’t stop winning in the Premier League, but it’s not like they want the good times to stop rolling.
The most recent Premier League 2018 results show just how dominant of a side City have become under Pep Guardiola. They swept the floor with AFC Bournemouth over the weekend and stomped West Ham United and Manchester City weeks prior. Given the way they have been playing throughout the season, there’s no reason to expect the Citizens to win this match in convincing fashion.
However, it doesn’t seem like Pep will be able to field his strongest team against Watford. He, more than anyone, understands how hectic of a month December is and will be looking to rotate his XIs to keep everyone fresh for the most important matches.
With that being said, there’s a good chance that we will see a completely different XI than what we saw at the Etihad last weekend. Sergio Aguero might suit up, but players such as Phil Foden, Gabriel Jesus, Danilo and Oleksandr Zinchenko might get a nod from the gaffer to start in this game.
While it is very likely that City won’t be fielding their strongest team at Vicarage Road, I am pretty sure that the XI Pep will field will still be a huge problem Javi Gracia’s lads have to face.
Watford won’t stop trying for the win
There was a point in the season’s earlier days when Watford were flying up the Premier League ranks alongside the best of them and were considered as overachievers. However, their mojo has since died out and they have now sunk to tenth in the table.
Of course, the Hornets want to fight evenly against the Sky Blues and will want to field the strongest team possible. They have impressive players in their payroll who can impact the game if they play well enough. Daryl Janmaat, Troy Deeney, Christian Kabasele and Roberto Pereyra must all step up if Watford were to have a fighting chance at getting a positive result from this match.
The problem that they have to sort out, however, is their defensive stability. They’ve conceded in four of their last five games, and three of those four games were winnable affairs for the Hornets. If they cannot even defend against a relegation-threatened Southampton team, what chance do they have against Manchester City?
However, the players aren’t allowed to lose hope as they have some of the best fans supporting them. The Watford supporters showed class during their visit to Leiciester City and will likely show the same amount of passion when they cheer for their team against City. They cannot let these fervent fans down.
History
The Sky Blues are yet to lose a game in the English top flight, and I don’t see that trend buckling any time soon. The only two clubs to steal points from City are Wolverhampton Wanderers and fierce title rivals Liverpool. Given how Watford have performed over the last two months, the only way they can grab a positive result from the Sky Blues is if they pull off what the Wolves did.
Manchester City also have the edge when it comes to the head-to-heads. The Sky Blues won 11 of their 18 matches with the Hornets. Watford won four of those and drew the remaining three. According to the script, there is no reason for City to lose.
Betting Tip
Watford vs Manchester City | Manchester City Asian Handicap-1.75 @ 2.13 | |
December 5, 04:00 (GMT+8) |
I don’t see any reason why punters should defy the SBOBET tips made in favour of Manchester City. The Sky Blues have won their last four Premier League games by at least three goals, and Tottenham at Wembley has been the only real challenge they experienced in the league over the past fifty days.
If you want to maximise your earnings in this game, I recommend going for the Over Under and Total Goal markets. Over 3.50 Goals is available at 2.26, and I have no doubt that the game would see at least three goals scored.
If you want to earn extra, the Total Goal market has a mouth-watering offer: 4-6 Total Goals has a promising 2.54 reward.
