Now this was an egg-scellent weekend of football games

countdown banner

Easter weekend, easter eggs and some egg-scellent football.

The title race is back on and the battle to beat the drop is a tight as ever with betting odds.

And that’s no yoke!

Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Bournemouth

Sports betting fans who had a pre-season punt on Spurs have suddenly got renewed hope.

A second successive 4-0 home win, seven league wins in a row and a return – and a goal – for Harry Kane.

They will relish next weekend’s FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea.

Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester City

A four-goal share of the spoils in which both sides impressed.

Leicester deserve praise for showing such character in the middle of a hectic week.

Palace deserved plaudits for a fine comeback.

Two entertaining sides now near safety.

Everton 3-1 Burnley

A victory which moved the Toffees, for 24 hours at least, into the lofty heights of fifth place.

Eight straight wins at Goodison Park included another Romelu Lukaku goal, it’s now nine goal-scoring games in a row at home for their star striker.

Battling Burnley may still be without an away victory this season but they can take heart from this showing.

Stoke City 3-1 Hull City

Stoke needed this, Hull could have done without it.

It was a game in which Xherdan Shaqiri showed his class, topped off with an assist and the match-clinching goal.

The Tigers remain in control of their own destiny, just two points clear of the bottom three.

Sunderland 2-2 West Ham United

They may be going down but they’re going down fighting.

Substitute Fabio Borini’s 90th-minute equaliser brought a brief smile for the passionate home fans and caused more frustration for West Ham.

But failure to win their next two games, against Middlesbrough and Bournemouth, will surely see Sunderland consigned to the drop.

Watford 1-0 Swansea City

How costly this could prove for the Swans.

After an uplift under Paul Clement, they seem to have misplaced the verve and spirit they produced in January and February and will likely need to win at least three of their final five games to have a chance of staying up.

Watford boss Walter Mazzarri deserves praise for guiding the Hornets to a third home win in a row.

Southampton 0-3 Manchester City

When Man City play like this, it’s easy to see why they should be faring far better.

The return of Vincent Kompany and restoration to the team of Yaya Toure helped City move up another gear and the Saints had no answer once they fell behind.

They should be a shoo-in for the top four if they play like this.

West Bromwich Albion 0-1 Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp spoke recently of a need for his side to win ugly and they have started to do so at just the right time.

Roberto Firmino’s header in first half injury time settled a tricky encounter.

The Baggies remain on course for an eighth place finish but their season is petering out.

Manchester United 2-0 Chelsea

It was a Jose Mourinho masterclass.

He set up his team perfectly against his former club to throw a spanner in the works for the leaders.

They should still go onto win the title but this was an afternoon which showed why Antonio Conte’s true tests are yet to come and will probably not arrive until next season.
