Massive Boost for Max as Roma crash

countdown banner

Roma’s defeat to Sampdoria has handed a huge fillip to Max Allegri’s Juventus and swung betting odds firmly back towards another Black and White title.

Gonzalo Higuain is already a firm favourite with Juve and football betting fans alike, and his 15th strike of the season left betting websites and Serie A pundits in agreement that it’ll take a herculean effort for someone to overhaul the champions.

Sassuolo 0-2 Juventus

The Bianconeri put this game to bed in the first half, going ahead on nine minutes when Gonzalo Higuain converted Alex Sandro’s cross. Sami Khedira profited on 25 minutes when Higuain turned provider, and that was enough to cap a useful weekend for Juve.

Sampdoria 3-2 Roma

Sampdoria avenged their cup humiliation to Roma and with some venom. The home side were still stinging after a 4-0 stuffing last week, but after Edin Dzeko put the title chasers 2-1 up, Patrick Schick and Luis Muriel put a big dent in their title hopes.

Napoli 1-1 Palermo

Napoli’s charge faltered stunningly as they failed to beat 19th-placed Palermo. Ilija Nestorovski headed home Andrea Rispoli’s cross on six minutes, and the lowly visitors frustrated the hosts until the 66th minute when Dries Mertens fired home from outside the box. Lorenzo Insigne came very close in the 93rd minute, but Napoli had to reluctantly settle for a point.

Inter 3-0 Pescara

It’s seven wins in a row for super Inter who move above Lazio up to fourth with a comfortable 3-0 win over increasingly doomed bottom club Pescara. Danilo D’Ambrosio lit up the San Siro in the 23rd minute before Joao Mario and Eder added to Pescara’s woes.

Lazio 0-1 Chievo

Chievo sprung a rather unpleasant surprise for Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio after the home team had put the visitors under the cosh for virtually the whole match. But failure to convert their superiority into goals was punished by Roberto Inglese who grabbed a shock 90th-minute winner.

Torino 1-1 Atalanta

Torino stay ninth after a hard-fought draw, but they expected more for much of the game after Iago Falque headed them in front on 16 minutes. It was not to be, and they are now without a win in four after Andrea Petagna slotted home midway through the second half.

Udinese 2-1 Milan

Udinese ended a three-match losing run and hindered Milan’s assault on Europe after the on-form Cyril Thereau equalised Giacomo Bonaventura’s early strike. Rodrigo De Paul fired home from distance on 73 minutes to leave Milan seventh and lift Udinese to tenth.

Fiorentina 3-3 Genoa

Giovanni Simeone scored a brace for Genoa including an 86th-minute equaliser to ensure the visitors shared the spoils in this six-goal thriller which Fiorentina led 2-0 and 3-2. Federico Bernardeschi saw red as the host’s frustration mounted.

Cagliari 1-1 Bologna

Bologna blew this one big style after Mattia Destro had given the visitors a 64th-minute lead. All looked serene until the 88th minute when Federico Viviani saw red for a rash challenge and team-mate Emil Krafth followed him three minutes later. Marco Borriello grabbed a point for Cagliari on 92!

Crotone 4-1 Empoli

Crotone kept their season alive and in some style, reducing the gap to 17th-placed Empoli to eight points. It’s still a big difference, but this result will do wonders for Crotone’s confidence and the opposite for Empoli. Hat-trick hero Diego Falcinelli was the star of the show.
