Real Madrid and Barcelona both won well this weekend as Los Blancos home in on a La Liga and Champions League double, while the Catalans try to stop them.
Zinedine Zidane’s Real crucially have two league football games to play and needs just four points, but Barca are pushing them all the way.
Las Palmas 1-4 Barcelona
Neymar netted his fourth hat-trick in Barca colours as the league leaders thrashed Las Palmas; and when they’re in this mood, football betting fans look for the handicap bets – -3.50 would have worked here! But matters are out of Barca’s hands and they must hope that Real slip up.
Real Madrid 4-1 Sevilla
When Sevilla pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 at the Bernabeu, Barca fans could have been forgiven for hoping, but it’s the hope that kills you! Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Los Blancos cruised to victory. That’s 11 in his last seven games in all competitions. He just keeps getting better!
Real Betis 1-1 Atletico Madrid
Atleti are safe in third place but would have expected to win at Real Betis, the side which sacked manager Victor Sanchez last week. Dani Ceballos fired the hosts in front from a corner to put Atletico on the back foot, but Saul Niguez headed down for Stefan Savic to equalise and the visitors were ultimately happy to take a point.
Villarreal 0-0 Deportivo La Coruna
The Yellow Submarine drew a blank at the Estadio de la Ceramica but stay fifth, albeit a single point ahead of sixth and seventh. And this point was invaluable to Deportivo who are now safe, just, after a disappointing season.
Real Sociedad 2-2 Malaga
Sociedad are still in the Europa hunt after earning a draw with a strong Malaga side. It’s the first game in five that the visitors have failed to win and at 2-1 up with five minutes remaining, Malaga thought it would be five in a row. But Jon Bautista was on hand to head the equaliser and grab a point.
Athletic Club 1-1 Leganes
Leganes are safe thanks to a well-earned draw against seventh-placed Athletic Club, and that’s a great achievement. Aritz Aduriz put the hosts in front on 14 minutes but Leganes key man Alexander Szymanowski was there to head the crucial goal which keeps Leganes in the top division.
Eibar 0-1 Sporting Gijon
So it’s Sporting Gijon we say goodbye to despite another plucky display to win an unlikely three points at eighth-placed Eibar. Burgui fired home on 31 minutes to give Sporting real hope, but they were dashed by results elsewhere.
Alaves 3-1 Celta Vigo
Deyverson was among the scorers as Alaves warmed up for the Copa del Rey final by going three up before the break against Celta Vigo. The visitors have lost five in a row now and Barcelona must hope they can get their act together when they play Real Madrid this week.
Osasuna 2-1 Granada
Tony Adams’ flops lost again to take the bottom place in La Liga as Osasuna vacate that spot having held it for much of the season. Jhon Steven Mondragon opened the scoring for the hosts on 24 minutes but Gustavo Ramos equalised before the break. Kenan Kodro converted with 15 minutes remaining to take all three points.
Espanyol 0-1 Valencia
Valencia had an unexpected win in Barcelona thanks to defender Jose Gaya’s shot late in the second half. The visitors avoided a sixth defeat in seven away games in a match with few chances, and one which had the feel of an end-of-season warm down.
