La Liga: Real Madrid Plan to Unload on Getafe

countdown banner

Getafe vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid are keen to secure another road win when they visit Getafe this Saturday night at the Alfonso Perez Coliseum.

Los Blancos are still undefeated in all competitions this 2022-23 campaign. However, they’ve fallen to second place at the table behind Barcelona since they were held 1-1 against Osasuna in the last time out.

Getafe, on the other hand, have had a difficult start to their campaign as they only have seven points – leaving them at 14th position in the table.

The pre-match SBOTOP betting odds are siding with the reigning Spanish top-flight champions for this contest.

There’s no time to waste for Carlo Ancelotti’s men since they want to get back on top, so they will give it their best shot against their hosts.

Talking Points

Getafe have yet to find their groove

Los Azulones were brought back to Earth on Saturday as they saw their two-game winning streak halted by Valladolid. Before Valladolid, Getafe notched impressive wins over Osasuna and Real Sociedad.

Los Pucelanos were buoyed by Sergio Leon’s brace and another goal from Oscar Plano as they were desperate to move out of the relegation mire, and that’s the kind of urgency Getafe need to have to get better La Liga 2022 results.

Getafe have players who can cause headaches for Real Madrid. Enes Unal – who scored in their 1-0 win against them last January – leads the way with two goals and one assist while the young Gaston Alvarez has the same amount of goals.

Joining Unal up front is a familiar name at Real in Borja Mayoral and for sure he would like show his old employers what they’re missing. The 25-year-old striker opened his scoring account in their defeat against Valladolid last weekend.

Midfield is going to be a weak point for Getafe as they’ll be missing the services of Mauro Arambarri and Jaime Seoane. Both hobbled off the pitch against Valladolid due to ankle injuries and it’s unlikely that either will be able to return as quickly as Saturday night.

Tough injury blows for Real Madrid

Thibaut Courtois is a major doubt in Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga match against Getafe

Real Madrid’s injury list has been a revolving door, which is normal considering they’re one of the most experienced sides in La Liga.

Karim Benzema returned after a month-long absence versus Osasuna, which is good news for Los Blancos. However, this time they’ll be without Dani Ceballos and Thibaut Courtois for a considerable amount of time.

Thibaut Courtois is dealing with a bout of sciatica so he’s out indefinitely, while Dani Ceballos is projected to be out until the early stages of 2023 due to a serious hamstring issue.

Backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin will replace Courtois, so this could be a pivotal moment in Real Madrid’s campaign. And while Ceballos is not a regular starter under Carlo Ancelotti, he is a quality player who fills in a lot of gaps in certain matches.

Luka Modric’s return from injury couldn’t come soon enough for Los Blancos, but it may take him some time to find his rhythm.

History

While Real Madrid have the upper hand in the overall head-to-heads, Getafe have surprisingly done well against them in their most recent encounters.

Los Azulones have collected points in two of their last three La Liga games (W1, D1, L1) – which is as many as in their previous 22 matches together in the competition (W1, D1, L20).

Real Madrid are winless in their last two away games against Getafe (L1, D1) as they failed to score in both occasions, and they could equal their longest run without an away win against them in La Liga (D1, L2 between 2005 and 2006).

Getafe, though, have been poor lately at home as they’ve only won one of their last eight games at the Alfonso Perez Coliseum (D4, L3) after winning seven of their previous 10 (D3). They’ve yet to lose two in a row at home under Quique Sanchez Flores since December 2004, his first stint with the team.

Betting Tip

The La Liga 2022 odds are backing Real Madrid to stay undefeated. Los Blancos are installed at 1.47, while Getafe are pegged at 6.00 and chances for a draw are at 4.50 in the 1X2 market.

Their recent encounters didn’t produce much goals so another bet worth considering is Under 2.75 @ 1.86.

While Getafe have the capability to frustrate Real Madrid, especially since fatigue will play a factor for the visitors, we’re backing Carlo Ancelotti’s men because of their overall quality but it will be a close contest.
