La Liga: Mbappe’s Arrival to Madrid Always Felt Inevitable

countdown banner

The rich got richer here in La Liga, as Real Madrid just completed their galactic transfer signing of Kylian Mbappe on Sunday.

In what was the worst-kept secret in football, Kylian Mbappe has always wanted to be a Madridista, but it took him two years to get to this point. Real Madrid fans are probably on cloud nine right now, especially since this La Liga 2024 news came days after they won their 15th Champions League trophy.

On the flip side, it’s a bittersweet day for PSG fans, as they saw one of their best players leave the club, although they already saw this coming from a mile away, and they have started to prepare a new life without him.

Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid has sent shockwaves through the world of football, and SBOTOP is here to explain why.

Real Madrid was Mbappe’s childhood dream

Kylian Mbappe’s eyes probably lit up when Real Madrid registered their interest for the first time in the then-PSG forward since he admitted that playing for them one day is one of his goals of his professional career.

Prior to joining Los Blancos, Mbappe emerged as one of the best strikers today after rising from the ranks at AS Monaco to PSG in Ligue 1, where he ultimately established himself as a world-class star.

At the same time, Mbappe was the driving force behind France’s World Cup triumph in 2018 and runner-up finish in 2022, so the Galactico qualities are there.

Real Madrid have always done their due diligence in the transfer market, as they have the uncanny ability to get the shiny new gems. At the time they expressed interest and courted Mbappe, Real Madrid had Karim Benzema as their top striker, but he was on the wrong side of his 30s.

As Real Madrid’s intentions became clear, Kylian Mbappe was already plotting his exit from Paris. However, he was hesitant at first because doing so would make him the country’s biggest villain, an image he didn’t want to portray (at least at the time).

PSG didn’t want to lose Kylian Mbappe even when Real Madrid were offering a king’s ransom because he was the centre of their ambitious project, and to their credit, they did all they could to keep their young star happy, either by giving him a stacked roster or by giving him the full reins of the club.

But despite their efforts, Mbappe’s mind was set even if he signed a two-year extension with PSG in 2022, with a player option for a third year, which he wasn’t going to use anyway.

Real Madrid are set for the present and the future

As mentioned, Real Madrid are one of the biggest teams in the world because of their unprecedented success, whether in Spain or around the world.

Their ability to formulate succession plans from vital positions in the field has been impressive, and the acquisition of Mbappe is one of the best examples of this.

Real Madrid still managed to win La Liga, Spanish Super Cup, and Champions League despite not having a bona fide no. 9, and Mbappe fills an important role, which would make them even stronger, as per the La Liga 2024 odds.

The trio of Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior will be a huge threat in La Liga
Jude Bellingham created the opportunity for Vinicius Junior to seal Real Madrid’s win over BVB in the Champions League Final

And then there’s Jude Bellingham – their top acquisition last summer – alongside Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Fede Valverde, all of whom are 25 and under.

Bellingham is just coming off a successful debut season for Los Blancos, as he was easily their best player, having won the La Liga Player of the Year award.

Vinicius Junior, on the other hand, has established himself as one of the world’s best forwards after a subpar first few seasons at the Bernabeu.

Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, and Kylian Mbappe would make for a potent star trio that should bring trophies to Real Madrid in years to come.

Can Mbappe achieve what he couldn’t in Paris?

Kylian Mbappe has seen it all at the age of 25, and the fact that he has yet to hit his prime is a scary thought for his opponents.

However, the only thing that’s missing in Mbappe’s trophy cabinet (besides the Spanish domestic awards) is the Champions League trophy, which he has coveted for so long during his PSG days.

Joining Real Madrid is his best chance of doing so, especially with Carlo Ancelotti still at the coaching helm. There will be more eyes on Kylian Mbappe as he embarks on his new journey in Spain, but it seems that he is more than capable of embracing the challenge.
