La Liga Barcelona vs Huesca: Dare to Dream

This is the kind of game which fans live for. The chance for a little team from Aragon to take on the Champions of Spain puts them in dreamland.

The La Liga Barcelona vs Huesca odds are as one-sided as you are likely to see in top-flight football. When you pit the league champions and, arguably, the best player in the world at home to a side making its first-ever appearance in the Primera Division with no household names in its squad, then it kind of makes sense.

But football isn’t just a business, it’s the best sport in the world and there’s always room for a team with a dream.

La Liga Barcelona vs Huesca is exactly that for the loyal Huesca fans who have made a noise in the 5,500-capacity Estadio El Alcoraz stadium, cheering their heroes all the way to the Promised Land.

They deserve this.

Talking Points

So come on, how can Huesca go on to achieve the impossible? Well, they need to score a goal. They have already proved they can in the top flight, bagging four in their first two games that are both away from home. But the bigger task is surely how to build a rearguard that can withstand the best attack in La Liga.

Lionel Messi is expected to rack up goals and goes all the way in their La Liga Barcelona vs Huesca match
La Liga Barcelona vs Huesca: Lionel Messi and his team are back in Camp Nou to take on newcomers this Sunday

Other teams try it every week, but not many succeed. Leo Messi was the man to break down Alaves’ stubborn defence as Barcelona have made it two wins from two, scoring four and conceding nil.

Messi isn’t the only threat Huesca has to worry about. Barca coach Ernesto Valverde has an embarrassment of riches and Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic and Philippe Coutinho could all turn the visitors’ dream into a nightmare.

But there is hope. Last season Barcelona conceded in nine home games with some small clubs breaching their defence. Some of the clubs Huesca can take inspiration from include Eibar, Alaves, and Madrid minnows Leganes.

New manager Leo Franco is under no illusions of the job he’s taken on; he knows the club well having kept goal for Huesca during the 2015/16 season. His team has had a great start to the season, winning their opener away to Eibar 1-2, with Alex Gallar grabbing a brace. That’s a fantastic introduction to top-flight football for the winger who scored five times in his club’s promotion campaign last year.

And Huesca followed that up with a creditable 2-2 draw at Athletic Club, scoring a late equaliser after going 2-0 down.

His team can certainly find the net, and Franco will be more concerned with how to keep it tight at the back. He’s dipped into the loan market for three defenders: Ruben Semedo from Villarreal, and Xabier Etxeita from Athletic Club, as well as Atletico’s young Argentine keeper Axel Werner.

They’ll need to play out of their skins and have their fair share of luck.

History

The Catalan giants won the 2018 La Liga title at a canter, by 14 points, and they are hot favourites again with the departure of Los Blanco’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Huesca were formed by Barcelona fans and are only the second club from Aragon, after Real Zaragoza, to reach the Primera Division.

They have played much of their football in the lower divisions, promoted to the Segunda Division in 2008 before dropping down again in 2013. They returned to the second tier two years ago and made the top flight for the first time, coming second in the league last season with two games to spare, beating Lugo 2-0.

So what do we have to work on in terms of Barcelona vs Huesca results? Not a lot; and what there is could bring the visitors’ fans out in a cold sweat.

The only previous encounters were two legs in the 2014/15 Copa Del Rey when Barca thrashed Huesca 0-4 on the underdogs’ home turf before spanking them 8-1 at the Camp Nou!

Betting Tip

??
Barcelona vs Huesca SD Huesca, First Half Asian Handicap +1.25 @1.99
September 3, 12:30 AM (GMT+8)

Whatever happens in Barcelona on Sunday, Huesca made a great start and anything else this weekend will be a bonus. Franco will tell his players to enjoy the experience, but they will fight tooth and nail to show they belong here. Barca are at 1.91 to be ahead at the break with a -1.25 goal handicap, but I think Huesca may well still be in the game at the 45-minute mark.

The SBOBET odds show just how one-sided, on paper not grass, this fixture is.

The home win is 1.078 if you fancy a tiny return! Huesca is at 30.00, and the draw is at 9.25.

For score lines, 4-0 is as low as 7.20; and 4 to 6 goals at 1.77 looks likely.

But what a story this could be!
