K-League: Ulsan Aim to Get Back on Track Versus Gangwon

countdown banner

Ulsan Hyundai vs Gangwon FC

A visit to the Munsu Football Stadium is in order this Sunday as Ulsan Hyundai host Gangwon FC in the 12th K-League matchday of the 2019/20 season.

This fixture will feature two clubs who are occupying varying spots at the updated table. But on paper, this should be quite a cracker of a match.

The home team in Ulsan Hyundai remain on top of the standings with 26 points and they have only lost once this season. On the other hand, their visitors in Gangwon FC sit at seventh with 14 points, which are level with Busan I’Park.

Both are coming off of wins in their previous matches, days after they’ve suffered some tough losses. So building a winning streak anew would be on top of their minds.

Another win here for Ulsan Hyundai would further boost their K-League 2020 odds for a championship while a victory for Gangwon FC could help them inch closer at least to a top-five spot.

Can the home team assert their dominance over their visitors? Or will Gangwon FC spring a surprise this weekend?

Talking Points

Ulsan Hyundai regaining their dangerous form

It’s no secret that Kim Do-hoon’s men are on their quest to win this season’s K-League championship. And so far, they are in good shape as they stand atop of the league standings.

They’ve collected eight wins, two draws, and only one loss, and they lead by one point over their bitter rivals in Jeonbuk.

But if their last match against them is any indication, the Horangi knows deep inside that there is a lot more work to be done in order to stay on top.

After their defeat against the defending champions, they vented their frustrations by crushing Incheon United and Daegu FC in resounding fashion – scoring seven times and only giving up two goals.

Junior Negrao continues to be on the forefront of their dangerous attack. The Brazilian striker is torching the Korean top-flight with 14 goals so far while spoiling us with a ton of K-League 2020 highlights.

He is supported by the likes of Yoon Bit-garam and Lee Chung-yong who have been inspiring as well, making the Horangi’s offence running like a well-oiled machine.

Their defence should be given credit too as they’ve only conceded only eight after 11 matches – good for second overall.

Kim Do-hoon was able to further strengthen their backline by signing Hong Chul from the Suwon Bluewings to add more experience and depth.

With Ulsan rounding into form, it will be hard to imagine anyone stopping them as of the moment.

Gangwon FC showing their inconsistency

Unlike the home team, the Kodiaks have been an up-and-down team since mid-June as they’ve recorded three straight losses and only won once in the last four fixtures.

Their backline has been suspect particularly in their losses as they couldn’t stop their opponents from finding the back of the net – conceding eight goals while only scoring three times.

Gangwon did bounce back, however, as they thrashed Gwangju FC through a 4-1 victory in the last time out.

Kim Byung-soo and his famous “Byung-soo ball” have been receiving mixed reviews and results from fans and pundits.

The said tactic can produce great results when being implemented right, as shown last season to where they notched 56 goals – good for third in the league.

But this year, the Kodiaks – for some reason – couldn’t take advantage of their heavy possession style of play since their attacking build up is often too slow.

This leaves them vulnerable at the opponents’ counterattacks and their defence couldn’t hold up. Gangwon’s backline has already given up 19 goals so far this term – good for second-worst in the competition.

History

Ulsan Hyundai and Gangwon FC have met each other in 22 matches so far.

The Horangi dominate this matchup by winning 16 matches while the Kodiaks won only twice along with four draws.

Ulsan get their way often against Gangwon, as they’ve found the back of the net at least two times in the past four encounters.

The betting odds are clearly against the visitors on this one, so head on over to our SBOBET tips to be guided on what should you place your wagers on.

Betting Tip

??
Ulsan Hyundai vs Gangwon FC Ulsan Hyundai Asian Handicap -1.00 @ 2.16
July 19, 18:00 (GMT+8)

For this fixture, Ulsan Hyundai are the hot favourites to win at 1.65, while Gangwon FC are priced lower at 4.60 and chances for a draw are at 3.90 in the 1×2 market.

Besides looking at the 1×2 market, you can also check out for the possible goal count of this fixture, and my recommendation will be Under 2.50 @ 1.91.

While Gangwon FC have the capability of beating any team in the K-League just like what they did to Jeonbuk earlier last May, one should consider the fact that Ulsan Hyundai remain a class above the Kodiaks quality-wise.
