K-League: Struggling Duo Set for Duel in Suwon

countdown banner

Suwon Samsung Bluewings vs FC Seoul

FC Seoul are finally back to winning ways after they edged out bottom club Incheon United in last week’s Gyeongin Derby. That big win lifted them out of the relegation zone for the time being.

They will now look to build upon that morale-boosting result as they take on another struggling K-League side, Suwon Bluewings.

The Bluewings are one spot below FC Seoul in the standings, but the K-League 2020 betting odds will be in their favour at home as they try to move away from the relegation zone.

Talking Points

Suwon’s scoring struggles continue

Suwon Bluewings suffered another heartbreaking defeat last week as they fell 1-0 to a surprising Sangju Sangmu side courtesy of an 87th-minute Sang-Woo Kang goal.

That’s now the fourth time Suwon have lost a match on a goal scored in the 86th minute or later. They lost their first two matches of the season against title contenders Jeonbuk and Ulsan as well as to Gwangju FC because of a late goal. And to make matters worse, three of those games have been at home.

In what’s become a running theme for Suwon this season, star striker Adam Taggart once again had a subpar outing against Sangju. The Aussie was substituted for Han Seok-Hee with 25 minutes still left in the match.

Taggart, the K-League’s top scorer with 20 goals this season, has had a tough sophomore season. He still hasn’t kicked on even after he scored his first goal of the season against Seongnam a few weeks ago. The Bluewings have desperately missed his goals; they’ve scored just eight in nine matches thus far.

But in fairness to Taggart, he’s hardly been the only problem. Fellow foreign players Sulejman Krpic and Terry Antonis, who were highly touted offseason signings, have also not produced what’s been expected. Manager Lee Lim Saeng simply hasn’t found the right formula to get the best out of them.

Meanwhile, their defence has not been able to preserve their leads in the rare instances where they have gone ahead. They threw away a two-goal lead against Ulsan, drew against Gangwon, and lost 3-1 after taking the lead at Daegu.

FC Seoul showing signs of improvement

FC Seoul finally snapped their five-match losing skid after beating rivals Incheon United 1-0 in the Gyeongin Derby.

Park Chu-Young missed a penalty after the hour mark, but Seoul quickly regrouped and scored the winner just a few minutes later through substitute Yun Ju-Tae.

Yun came on for Brazilian striker Adriano, who has been a disappointment this season. The 32-year-old has yet to score in six matches this season and has yet to even play over 47 minutes in a single match.

Seoul’s attack looked much better in the second half against Incheon sans Adriano. They created nine shots, six of them on target, in that half alone.

After that latest uninspiring outing, manager Choi Yong-soo may opt back to a 4-3-3 formation with Park Chu-Young operating as the lone striker.

Adriano’s complete lack of K-League 2020 highlights has been a huge blow for FC Seoul this season. They have the second-fewest goals thus far with just six through nine games. Yun’s goal against Incheon finally snapped their three-match goalless drought.

On the bright side, though, their defence, which has conceded a league-most 18 goals, has started to show signs of improvement. After surrendering 10 goals in heavy defeats to Jeonbuk and Daegu, they’ve given up just three in their last three. That includes just two goals conceded in their match against leading scorers Ulsan, and both of those came after Seoul had a player sent off.

History

FC Seoul have had the upper hand over Suwon in their recent meetings. Seoul have won 16 of their last 33 matches, while the Bluewings have won nine, with eight draws.

However, it’s been four years since Suwon have defeated FC Seoul. That came in the Korean FA Cup. The Bluewings’ last league victory came in 2015.

FC Seoul have gone unbeaten in their last 12 matches, with six wins and six draws. They won two of their three meetings last season.

Betting Tip

??
Suwon Samsung Bluewings vs FC Seoul Under 2.25 Goals @ 1.92
July 4, 19:00 (GMT+8)

The SBOBET odds are tight in this battle of struggling clubs. Suwon have the slight edge as the home side at 2.40 to win, while FC Seoul are 2.91 underdogs. A draw is priced at 3.15.

Neither of these clubs inspires much confidence at the moment, so it can realistically go any which way.

That’s why I’d rather turn to the over-under goals market and take the under. These two clubs are the lowest scorers in the league with just 14 goals between them. And FC Seoul’s recent form suggests they could make things tough for the Bluewings’ already struggling attack. So expect a rather low-scoring affair in this bottom-of-the-table clash.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
