K-League: Struggling Bluewings Desperate to Beat Busan

countdown banner

Suwon Samsung Bluewings vs Busan I’Park

The Suwon Bluewings have hit a new low as their disappointing K-League campaign gets worse. The Bluewings suffered a 1-0 defeat to bottom club Incheon United, which extended their winless slump to four games.

With that win, Incheon are now just three points behind Suwon, who remain second from bottom in the table. That makes it even more crucial for the Bluewings to pick up a positive result when they host Busan I’Park this weekend.

The Royals defied the K-League 2020 betting odds as they toppled Pohang Steelers to end their five-match winless run. They will now have their sights set on another win, which could send them to the top half of the league.

Talking Points

Suwon suddenly not safe from relegation

Suwon are in the midst of a major slump in form. They suffered a dispiriting 1-0 defeat in their matchup against Incheon United last time out, which means they have now gone four matches without a win.

Even more concerning is the fact that they’ve won just once in their last 10, with six defeats and three draws. Because of those poor K-League 2020 results and Incheon’s recent resurgence, Suwon are now just three points clear of that lone relegation spot.

The main reason for Suwon’s struggles all season has been their inability to get enough goals, and that has continued during their recent skid. They’ve scored just once in their last four games, which was a late Adam Taggart consolation in their 3-1 defeat to Jeonbuk.

Taggart has actually scored four of Suwon’s last six goals, but the fact that they’ve scored just six goals in eight games is not great.

Although, the Australian will have an advantageous matchup which he can use to add to his goal tally as he takes on a Busan defence which hasn’t kept a clean sheet in its last five games.

Suwon have scored slightly more goals at home than they have away this season, although they’ve played one more game at home.

However, their record at the Suwon World Cup Stadium has actually been significantly worse. They’ve collected just five points in nine matches at home, with one win and six losses. They’ve also let in 15 goals at home, the most in the league.

Busan break winless slump

Busan came away with a big victory in the previous round as they knocked off fifth-placed Pohang Steelers 2-1 at home. Busan went two goals up in the first half through goals from Kang Min-Soo and Jung-Hyub Lee to beat the struggling Steelers.

The win was Busan’s first in their last five games, of which they had lost three and drew two. Granted, three of those games were against tough opponents in Daegu, Ulsan, and Sangju, who are all currently in the top four.

Similar to Suwon, Busan have found goals hard to come by this season. They’ve scored 18 goals in 17 games. Jung-Hyub Lee is the team’s leading scorer with five goals this season, but his goal against Pohang was the first in his last six games.

But defence has arguably been Busan’s bigger problem this year. They’ve already shipped 23 goals, which is tied for the fourth-worst defensive record in the league. Moreover, they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five games.

Moreover, most of Busan’s defensive problems have come away from home. They’ve shipped 14 of those 23 goals away from Busan Gudeok Stadium, which is a significant reason why they’ve gotten only eight points from eight away games.

History

Suwon Bluewings and Busan I’Park don’t have much history to speak of, although Suwon have had the upper hand in the matches they’ve played. They’ve won nine out of their 19 league matches, with Busan winning four, while there have been six draws.

Suwon are currently on a run of eight matches unbeaten against Busan, although each of their last three meetings and four out of the last five have been draws.

Betting Tip

??
Suwon Samsung Bluewings vs Busan I’Park 1X2 Draw @ 3.20
August 29, 19:00(GMT+8)

Despite their recent struggles, SBOTOP odds have Suwon as slight 2.42 favourites at home with Busan priced at 2.83. Meanwhile, a draw is at 3.20.

The two sides have drawn each of their last three meetings, and it seems most likely that they play out another stalemate.

Neither club is in particularly great form, which makes it seem unlikely that one of them will come out of this match with all three points.
