K-League: Slumping FC Seoul Make Dangerous Trip to Daegu

countdown banner

Daegu FC vs FC Seoul

The rest of the K-League better beware. After a slow start, Daegu FC’s brilliant Brazilians, Cesinha and Edgar, looked back to their best last time out as they led the team to their first win of the season.

Daegu’s dynamic duo will now have their sights set on a second straight win as they host a struggling FC Seoul side. Seoul have suffered some painful losses over the last two weeks and will be eager to get their season back on track at Daegu.

Talking Points

Daegu’s dynamic duo finally deliver

Daegu FC finally got on the win column for the first time this season as they defied the K-League 2020 betting odds and beat Seongnam FC, 2-1. That loss ended the Magpies’ four-match unbeaten run to start the season.

Unsurprisingly, the Brazilian duo of Cesinha and Edgar inspired Daegu to victory. The two hadn’t been in the best of form this season, which led to the team’s slow start. But they were brilliant against Seongnam as they produced easily their best performances of the campaign to date.

Cesinha — one of the stars of the K-League last season with 15 goals and 10 assists — set up both goals, one of which was a towering Edgar header for Daegu’s equaliser.

With Cesinha running the show, Daegu absolutely dominated as they created 17 shots to Seongnam’s 3, with 10 on target. They really should have won by more but were let down by some poor finishing.

Cesinha and Edgar combined to score 26 of Daegu’s 46 league goals last season, so their return to form is promising.

Another promising development for Daegu is in defence. After losing captain Hong Jeong-woon to a serious knee injury, caretaker manager Lee Byung-keun turned to 20-year-old Jo Jin-Woo to play at centre-back. Jo didn’t disappoint as he put in a competent performance, and in his K-League debut no less.

Jo and 23-year-old Tae-Wook Jeong, who scored the winner at Seongnam, will now be crucial parts of the team’s campaign moving forward as they look to secure Daegu’s defence.

FC Seoul have several issues to solve

Home has not been too sweet for FC Seoul in recent weeks. After a heartbreaking loss in the 90th minute to Seongnam, they were then handed a 4-1 beating by champions Jeonbuk last weekend. Maybe FC Seoul are missing having their “fans” watching in the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Whatever the case, FC Seoul need to get their act together away from home. They have already conceded nine goals through five games, the worst defensive record in the league.

The possible return of defensive midfielder Osmar should help shore up the backline. The Spaniard missed out on the Jeonbuk match due to injury.

Equally concerning is FC Seoul’s stagnant attack, which has not looked like the unit that scored 53 goals last season.

Aleksandar Pesic — the team’s co-leading scorer with 10 goals last season — also missed out against Jeonbuk due to injury. It remains to be seen whether he will even suit up for Seoul again as his loan deal is set to expire at the end of the month.

Park Chu-young has only one goal to his name. Meanwhile, the much-hyped return of Adriano to the club has not produced any K-League 2020 highlights of note thus far.

Adriano got the start up front ahead of Park against Jeonbuk, but after another underwhelming performance by the Brazilian, Park looks set to reclaim his spot in the first XI.

History

FC Seoul dominated Daegu in their matchups last season. Seoul swept the season series with a trio of 2-1 wins, two at home.

That was just the continuation of FC Seoul’s success over Daegu in the K-League. They’ve won 10 of 20 meetings, with Daegu winning just four.

It has been slightly more competitive since 2017, though. Seoul have four wins to Daegu’s two, while there have been three draws.

Betting Tip

??
Daegu FC vs FC Seoul 1X2 Daegu FC @ 2.13
June 14, 18:00(GMT+8)

SBOBET odds have Daegu FC priced as 2.13 favourites at home. FC Seoul are 3.25 underdogs to score an away win, while a draw is 3.30.

While Seoul have had the upper hand in recent years, they simply don’t inspire any confidence given their poor form at the moment.

On the other hand, Daegu reminded everyone just how dangerous they can be. And with Seoul’s defence struggling, Daegu’s Brazilian duo look primed to do some serious damage en route to a second straight win.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
