K-League: Desperate Incheon United Take On Confident Gangwon FC

countdown banner

Incheon United vs Gangwon FC

Incheon United continue their search for their first K-League win of the season as they host Gangwon FC this weekend at the Sungui Arena Park.

After suffering a brutal beatdown against the Pohang Steelers in the last matchday, Incheon United have sank to the 11th spot with two draws and two losses.

On the other hand, Gangwon FC are looking to sustain their momentum after grabbing their second win of the season against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in what was one of the more surprising K-League 2020 results.

Despite not being favoured in our K-League 2020 odds, the Kim Byung-soo-managed club rightfully took advantage when the defending champions were reduced to only 10 men.

Gangwon FC are currently fifth in the updated standings with seven points.

The most recent SBOBET betting odds have the road team as the hot favourites. In the 1×2 market, Gangwon FC are priced at 2.00 while Incheon United are placed at 3.35 and a draw at 3.55.

Is it Incheon’s turn to pull off the upset this time? Let us to examine both of these teams.

Talking Points

Will Incheon United finally get their first win?

Incheon United have yet to register a win this season, and a large part of that is because they haven’t been on target for the past four matches.

Their main option remains to be Stefan Mugosa who was the team’s leading scorer from last season with 14 goals. However, so far this season, the Montenegrin striker has yet to find his rhythm due to his poor fitness and form.

Other than their struggles in scoring goals, Incheon United were not spared by the injury bug, leaving them with lesser options on both ends of the pitch.

It doesn’t help when Mugosa’s attacking partner in Lanre Kenhinde — who was part of the Nigerian national team in multiple stints — is still recuperating from a knee injury that he suffered during the first half against the Suwon Bluewings.

Rashid Mahazi, who is one of their more reliable midfielders, has already missed the last three games due to a thigh concern. It remains to be seen on whether he’ll be ready this weekend.

Bosnian defender Gordan Bunoza has yet to play this season, but he is expected to fight for a starting XI spot especially after their poor defensive showing against Pohang the last time out.

Despite all of these lineup concerns, there are a couple of bright spots for the team that their fans should keep an eye on.

Kim Ho-nam scored Incheon’s first-ever goal this season against the Pohang Steelers last weekend and the 30-year-old winger is expected to shoulder more of the load since he was named as the team captain for this season.

Jung San looks to be a solid goalkeeper for Incheon given his past few performances. But he will definitely need a lot more support on the backline in order for them to be more effective.

Gangwon FC riding high in confidence

Gangwon are confident especially coming off a shocking upset against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors last weekend.

In the said match, the defending champions were dealt with some bad luck when Hong Jeong-ho was sent off via a red card within the first 15 minutes, leaving their defence with a gaping hole.

Former Jeonbuk forward Ko Moo-yeol delivered the knockout punch when he scored a sublime finish to take the lead for good in the first half, and his team stood strong on the defensive end to hold on for the crucial three points.

By paper, Gangwon FC should be considered as a dark horse for this term. They finished last season finishing in the top half and they have some intriguing pieces that can push them to the next level.

Opponents will always have to look out for the lethal combination of Ko Moo-yeol and Kim Seung-dae as both can score and create a ton of opportunities for their teammates.

History

Gangwon FC have gotten the better of Incheon United in their head-to-head matchups as they’ve won 10 to Incheon’s nine along with four draws.

They’ve played each three times last season with Incheon United never winning in any of those.

Gangwon narrowly won 1-0 as Shin Kwang-hoon scored the only goal of the first game, and it was followed up by a 2-1 victory with Jung Jo-gook scoring twice. The third match ended with a 2-2 draw.

Goals are expected as history suggests as they’ve had only one game where both teams ended up goalless.

Betting Tip

??
Incheon United vs Gangwon FC Gangwon FC Asian Handicap -0.25 @1.77
June 5, 18:30 (GMT+8)

Gangwon FC have been a hit-or-miss squad for the most part, but football fans were able to see a glimpse of their full potential when they defeated the defending champions last week.

Incheon, meanwhile, don’t have much depth that can contend against the best teams which makes them an early relegation candidate.

It’s still too early and it remains to be seen on what will unfold this season. But for this match, there’s no doubt that Gangwon FC will comfortably grab three points in this one.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
