Great Weekend for Atletico as Betting Odds Hit the Skids!

countdown banner

Antoine Griezmann scored a late winner to give Atletico Madrid a crucial win on a weekend of shocks at the top of La Liga.

Some seemingly safe betting tips went by the wayside as both Barcelona and Real Madrid failed to win, and second-placed Valencia slipped up in Getafe.

December it may be, but there’s no snow yet in Spain…so no excuses!

Atletico Madrid 2-1 Real Sociedad

There was real live betting drama at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday as Griezmann pounced in the 88th minute to send the home fans wild. Willian Jose had put the visitors in front from the spot, but a fine strike from Filipe Luis set up a grandstand finish.

Barcelona 2-2 Celta Vigo

That means Diego Simeone’s side is within six points of the top after Barca were held at home by Celta Vigo. Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez were on target for the hosts, but battling Celta responded through Iago Aspas and Maxi Gomez to earn an impressive point.

Athletic Bilbao 0-0 Real Madrid

Sergio Ramos has broken yet another record, but not such a great one! The Los Blancos legend has become the most red-carded player in Primera Division history with his 19th. His elbow in the face of Aritz Aduriz capped Real’s night after the visitors hit the woodwork twice but generally lacked a spark.

Getafe 1-0 Valencia

Valencia couldn’t even manage a point against Getafe, despite the hosts going down to ten men in the first half. Mauro Arambarri picked up two quick-fire bookings, but Getafe continued to fight and Markel Bergara blasted the winner midway through the second.

Sevilla 2-0 Deportivo La Coruna

Sevilla are fifth and level on points with Real Madrid after a comfortable home win against strugglers Deportivo. Man-of-the-match Nolito set up Wissam Ben Yedder, at the end of the first half, and Michael Krohn-Dehli, in the second, to see off Depor.

Leganes 3-1 Villarreal

Leganes ended a worrying run of four defeats and climbed to within a point of sixth-placed Villarreal with a convincing win. The visitors went ahead through Dani Raba but were overwhelmed as Diego Rico, Nabil El Zhar and Gabriel fired the Madrid team to victory.

Eibar 3-1 RCD Espanyol

A third win on the bounce has lifted Eibar up to mid-table after Kike and Ivan Alejo put them in charge in the first half. Joan Jordan made the points safe from the spot before Espanyol accepted a consolation, courtesy of a Sergi Enrich own goal.

Las Palmas 1-0 Real Betis

Home comfort at last for Las Palmas as the Gran Canarians grabbed a vital three points to stay in touch with safety. Jonathan Calleri kept his nerve to inspire a first win in ten and lift the hosts to within two points of 17th-placed Deportivo.

Malaga 0-0 Levante

A point was more use to Levante in the weekend opener as the visitors have a cushion to the drop zone. Malaga dominated the game and Adrian Gonzalez was unlucky not to score as his shot hit the post, but Malaga remain in big trouble.

Girona 2-3 Alaves

The 14th round of fixtures came to a close with a thrilling comeback win for Alaves in Girona, where two goals in three minutes from Cristhian Stuani and Juanpe put the hosts in charge. Ibai Gomez pulled one back for the bottom club, and then drew a foul in the box and fired home the penalty, before completing a spectacular hat-trick in the dying seconds to lift Alaves off the bottom.
