What Gives you the Best Odds of Survival?

countdown banner

That is the million pound question. Well, I guess it’s nearer £100 million when you think of the cost of dropping out of the EPL, the richest league in world football.

Unthinkable for fans, coaches, owners and, hopefully, your players; relegation to the Championship can spell disaster; not only in terms of loss of money, but also, as everyone in the football betting world knows, England’s second tier is one difficult league to get out of, at the right end in any case!

So how do you ensure your mob has the best odds of staying out of trouble? You could maybe ask Sean Dyche. Burnley were widely tipped to be in a relegation scrap but have been nowhere near, and the small Lancashire town is heading on a European tour.

But who is still in the mire?

WEEK 37 SATURDAY:

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester United

Chris Hughton hasn’t done a bad job either. His Seagulls, in their first season of Premier League football, have all but completed the task of winning a second chance. Five points above the drop zone, with three games remaining, isn’t enough to give their excitable fans a relaxing week though, and the visit of Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils might just leave Brighton with a bit more to do. Jose has his sights firmly set on second place, and while Pascal Gross and Jose Izquierdo have the trickery to keep a defence on its toes, Brighton hasn’t troubled United this season, losing in both the league and the FA Cup, without beating David De Gea.

Stoke City vs Crystal Palace

Potters’ homefield is a hostile place to go, but club’s fans will have to be at their best if they are to lift Stoke out of a near impossible position. Stoke haven’t won in 12 attempts and are pretty much nailed on to join the Baggies in the Championship, but you wouldn’t know that to listen to Paul Lambert. The Stoke boss has been upbeat after every setback. Meanwhile, the Eagles have every right to be optimistic, up in 11th after three wins in six; they can prepare for another season in the Premier.

West Bromwich Albion vs Tottenham Hotspur

Darren Moore has done an incredible job since taking the reins at the Hawthorns, winning eight points in four games. But betting odds and conventional wisdom tell us the Baggies should have appointed him two months earlier! Meanwhile, with a Top Four place looking reasonably safe and nothing else to play for, Spurs thoughts are on whether Harry Kane can repeat his amazing feat of scoring seven in the last two games of last season. He’ll probably need to if he is to win the Golden Boot as, at the moment, he’s four goals behind Mo Salah who has 31.

So it’s the Baggies versus King Harry. Which way is your football bet going?

Soccer betting odds suggest defeat this week could leave Swansea staring down the barrel of a return to the Championship
With just a point away from the relegation trapdoor, Swansea City aim to beat Bournemouth

Bournemouth vs Swansea City

The Cherries don’t have a lot to get excited about. I’m not saying Eddie Howe’s men rolled over for the Saints last week, but the pebbly Bournemouth beaches, with fresh fish served in the ocean-side bars and restaurants will be a distraction before too long! So the question is, can the Swans take advantage? Carlos Carvalhal worked wonders on his arrival, but two points from five leaves his team clearly in the Saints’ sights.

Leicester City vs West Ham United

And if the Swans can get something on the South Coast then it’ll be squeaky bum time for the Hammers, who are only three points above the drop after back-to-back 1-4 defeats. They take a trip to Leicester, on paper a difficult place to go, but the Foxes have recently had a strange approach with their coaches. In ninth place, some fans are hoping for yet another change.

There’s no pleasing some folk!

Watford FC vs Newcastle United

So Vicarage Road may be the place to go for a relaxing time this weekend, and it seems like the Hornets have been taking it easy for some time! They haven’t won in seven but with 38 points they’re surely safe…aren’t they? Rafa Benitez has done a great job at Newcastle and has every chance of keeping the Geordies in the top ten.

WEEK 37 SUNDAY:

Everton vs Southampton

Will the Saints survive? Well, a crucial win over Bournemouth last week has given Mark Hughes some hope. Dusan Tadic scored a brace to take him to six for the season, one fewer than the perpetually crocked leading scorer Charlie Austin. Southampton are still in the hunt for survival and will take heart from the fact that Everton have little to play for, and have won only one of their last three at home. But does Big Sam ever give anything away?

Manchester City remain heavy favourites of football betting odds
Huddersfield Town are in need of points to keep the distance between them and their relegation rivals

Manchester City vs Huddersfield Town

I really fear for Huddersfield. Not just this weekend at the Etihad, although that could get messy. The champions are keeping themselves and their fans entertained by seeing just how many points and goals they can rack up. Nine points and 12 goals from the last three games is enough to put the wind up the most fearless of Terriers. Huddersfield have made a superb effort this season, but if the Swans and Saints get a win each then it could be curtains for the Yorkshiremen.

Arsenal vs Burnley

It’s Arsene Wenger’s last home league game at the Emirates and his team would dearly love to give him the send-off he wants, but they’ll have to pick themselves up quickly after a massive Thursday Europa date in Madrid. And if you want an easy ride after a tough week then Burnley is just about the last team you would hope to see rolling up. The seventh placed Clarets will get in your face, that’s for sure!
