Get Ready for the Battle at the Bottom!

While the fight for the top spots continues to heat up, there’s another battle in the Bundesliga worth watching—the battle to beat the drop.

Four of the five worst teams meet today in hopes of boosting their survival hopes, while bottom club FC Koln face a tough task as they visit online gambling heavyweights RB Leipzig.

However, with their future at the top flight at stake, expect these terrible teams to give it their best and thrill the football betting faithful this Week 24.

WEEK 24 SATURDAY:

Mainz 05 vs VfL Wolfsburg

Pre-match betting odds favour 16th-placed Mainz over 14th-placed Wolfsburg, and for a good reason. The O-Fives are coming off a 0-2 upset of the Berliners the last time out, while Wolfsburg haven’t won this February and even suffered back-to-back losses to Bremen and Bayern.

There’s a possibility that this game will end up in a draw just like their first meeting, but I think the home team’s confidence and high morale will come into play here. Go for Mainz Draw No Bet @ 1.73.

Hoffenheim vs SC Freiburg

Hoffenheim might be the favourites, but don’t sleep on Freiburg. Christian Streich’s men have only one defeat in five and should be a threat to a team they already defeated this campaign. Nils Petersen, who has scored three goals in their last four, should also be able to make life difficult for a Hoffenheim outfit struggling defensively.

VfB Stuttgart vs Eintracht Frankfurt

Frankfurt are currently in contention for a Champions League place, so don’t expect them to slow down and lose winnable games. Although Stuttgart won back-to-back matches, they still have a lot to improve offensively—having scored just 19 league goals so far.

Hannover 96 vs Borussia Monchengladbach

Hannover are looking to avenge their September defeat to Gladbach, and it couldn’t come at a better time as they host the Foals who are currently on a four-game losing skid. Meanwhile, Hannover are firmly holding onto the seventh spot with four draws and two wins in their past seven matches.

Bayern Munich vs Hertha BSC

What’s left to say about the run Bayern Munich are having? They are simply unstoppable, and it’s unlikely for any team to beat them on their turf where they haven’t lost a league game since 2016. Robert Lewandowski is also on his way to win the top-scorer prize, so taking down Hertha should be an easy task for the Bavarian.

WEEK 24 SUNDAY:

Werder Bremen vs Hamburger SV

These two played a goalless draw the first time they fought, but a goal or two is expected to come this time as they both eye to pull away from the relegation zone. The River Islanders, however, have a better chance considering that Hamburg are low in confidence as they remain winless since November. If you’re punting, Bremen -0.50 @ 1.81 seem the best choice.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Schalke 04

Over their last five Bundesliga outings, Schalke only lost once when they scored first. Hence, they certainly need another hot start if they are to return in the top three. It will be a tall order though, especially against a spectacular Bayer Leverkusen side boasting the attacking talent of Leon Bailey and Kevin Volland.

WEEK 24 MONDAY:

RB Leipzig vs FC Koln

The Billy Goats have now cooled down after a hot start to the year. They are winless in four and have conceded nine goals in that stretch, so it’s doubtful they can pose much of a challenge against Leipzig who are looking to secure Champions League qualification—with the Europa League looking more like a difficult path. Choose Leipzig -1.25 @ 2.20.

WEEK 24 TUESDAY:

Borussia Dortmund vs Augsburg

It was a story of two Peters for Dortmund. After sacking manager Peter Bosz, BVB were able to turn their season around under Peter Stoger.  The acquisition of Michy Batshuayi also proved to be a catalyst, and they are expected to continue their run against mid-table Augsburg—a team struggling to get points on the road.

Napoli will be glad of a slightly extra recovery due to Europa League exertions.

Realistically, the longer they stay in that competition, the more damaging it could be to their Scudetto hopes.
