Spain vs Romania
Spain have already booked their spot in the next round of the Euro 2020 qualifiers, as they are far ahead of Group F with 23 points.
After drawing level in a tough match against second-seeded Sweden, La Furia Roja vented their ire against their listless counterparts in Malta with a 7-0 tally to solidify their first-place hold.
On the other hand, Romania are sitting at the third spot with 14 points, and their Euro 2020 odds of making it are very unlikely especially when Sweden have joined Spain for next year’s festivities.
The Romanians have put up a decent effort in this tournament as they’ve managed to give Spain a scare in their reverse fixture, along with winning against the likes of Malta and Faroe Islands.
They should at least give La Furia Roja a valiant fight before we end the group stage matches, and SBOBET is here to provide you some updates on how it will all unfold on next Tuesday.
Talking Points
La Furia Roja on a mission
The Spanish national team is making quite a statement as they try to reclaim their lost glory in the UEFA European Championship. La Roja last won it back in 2012 to complete their historic treble, but they were eliminated in the Round of 16 the last time around at the hands of their old nemesis in Italy.
The team back then was loaded as it gets. They’ve had the likes of Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres, Gerard Pique, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, and Iker Casillas. This year’s team is no slouch either, as they have a formidable line-up with the likes of Alvaro Morata, Rodrigo, Jordi Alba, Sergio Ramos, and Paco Alcacer – all players who should continue to produce for us some of the best Euro 2020 highlights.
New boss Robert Moreno has done a seamless transition since replacing Luis Enrique back in June, as he was able to incorporate some new faces that have helped La Roja’s cause. Fabian Ruiz, Pablo Sarabia, and Mikel Oyarzabal have gotten their first few caps recently, while Pau Torres, Sergio Reguilon, and Gerard Moreno have gotten their first call-ups.
La Furia Roja are currently fourth in goals scored in this tournament with 26, while they’ve only conceded five. That just goes to show how hungry they are on making it back to the mountain top.
They are looking to finish off the group stage matches with a bang, as the UEFA committee will hold an initial draw on November 30. The six best group finishers will have the privilege of getting an advantageous spot for next year’s competition.
Robert Moreno will surely do his best to motivate his team as to avoid any slip-ups to their master plan.
Romania rue missed opportunity
For a while, Romania were still in the running for at least the second-seed behind Spain, but a loss against Sweden ruined their chances of moving on to the next round.
The Tricolorii were manhandled by Sweden when Marcus Berg and Robin Quaison fired in one goal each in the first half.
Things went from bad to worse when the game was momentarily stopped because of the rowdy crowd in Bucharest. Swedish forward Alexander Isak was constantly booed and he got some racial abuse from the fans.
It was such an unfortunate night for the Romanians with their hopes down the drain, which is why a win over the Spaniards should be considered a perfect consolation if ever they can pull it off.
Romania will still have the likes of Ciprian Tatarusanu, Romario Benzar, George Puskas, and Claudiu Keseru in their lineup. However, their inexperienced group at the backline should be worrisome if you’re manager Cosmin Contra.
While fans over at Bucharest are disappointed after coming up short, they seem to be on an upward trajectory and we can expect a better showing from them next time.
History
Matches between Spain and Romania come few and far between, and their head-to-heads have been pretty even as both of these teams have tallied one win each along with one draw.
Romania were close to scoring an upset in their reverse fixture back in September, especially when Diego Llorente was sent out after being given a red card. However, Paco Alcacer was there to save the day by netting La Furia Roja’s second goal of the night.
Betting Tip
Spain vs Romania | Spain Asian Handicap -2.00 @ 1.84 | |
November 19, 03:45 (GMT+8) |
The Spaniards are expected to be the hot favourites on this matchup and for good reason, as their stacked lineup are a handful to deal with for the opposing clubs.
Romania will try to replicate what they did back in September, but I wouldn’t bet on it against a resurgent La Furia Roja team.
