Eagles soar over the Bridge as Betting Tips crash

countdown banner

The title race is back on! So screams the UK sports press today as football betting pundits hailed Crystal Palace’s stunning win at Chelsea.

And a victory for Spurs at Burnley narrowed the gap at the top to seven points. Betting websites worldwide still expect the Premier League trophy to head to Stamford Bridge, but now there’s the slightest chink of hope for the chasers.

Chelsea 1-2 Crystal Palace

Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey was the hero, keeping out all but one of Chelsea’s 24 shots on goal as the Blues laid siege to the Eagles’ defence. I suspect Cesc Fabregas thought he’d started a Chelsea procession when he scored on five minutes but Palace’s Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke had other ideas as the brilliant Hennessy kept the Blues at bay.

Burnley 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs fans sang, ‘Chelsea…we’re coming for you!’ after a second half double courtesy of Eric Dier and Heung-Min Son took all three points at Turf Moor. Mind you, last season they sang, ‘Leicester…we’re coming for you!’ and remember how that turned out. The Clarets edged the first half but that little bit of extra quality saw Spurs home.

Liverpool 3-1 Everton

A horror tackle by Ross Barkley on Dejan Lovren rather changed the tone of this Friendly Derby but Liverpool exacted their revenge to give Jurgen Klopp his third derby win in three. A brilliant goal from Phillipe Coutinho and strikes from Sadio Mane and Divock Origi won the points as Matthew Pennington gave the Toffees a solitary moment of cheer.

Manchester United 0-0 West Bromwich Albion

The Old Trafford fans are getting used to this after an 11th draw of the season. Jose Mourinho gave a peach of a post-match interview to the press, refusing to answer questions when the interviewer hinted his stars hadn’t been dominant. He kind of had a point after United managed only three shots on target!

Leicester City 2-0 Stoke City

Wilfred Ndidi hit an absolute screamer to get the Foxes flying again and their fourth league win on the trot was confirmed when Jamie Vardy converted smartly early in the second half. Leicester are as safe as Stoke now but the visitors’ season seems to be petering out, particularly away from home.

Southampton 0-0 Bournemouth

You have to see Harry Arter’s spectacular penalty miss to believe it. The Saints dominated much of this South Coast derby in the first half as Dusan Tadic and Jay Rodriguez threatened. Benik Afobe missed a sitter for the Cherries early in the second half before Harry Arter took a big divot and almost hit the floodlight with his spot kick!

Hull City 2-1 West Ham United

The Tigers’ hopes of survival had a boost after a rousing second-half comeback took all three points. Andy Carroll scored for the dominant Hammers but Andy Roberston equalised to set up a grandstand finish and Andrea Ranocchia headed a late winner.

Watford 1-0 Sunderland

A second half header by Miguel Britos has all but guaranteed Watford another season in the top flight and all but guaranteed that the Black Cats are on their way to the Championship.

Swansea City 0-0 Middlesbrough

These two struggling teams canceled each other out in the first period at the Liberty Stadium, which Swansea just edged while Boro failed to register a first-half shot on target for the 12th time this season! Gylfi Sigurdsson brought a great save out of Victor Valdes as the Swans searched in vain for a winner.
