Bundesliga: Sancho is Back Home

countdown banner

England star Jadon Sancho has returned to his spiritual home of Dortmund to rejoin BVB after a frustrating two seasons away with Manchester United in the Premier League.

Sancho has joined Borussia on loan for the rest of the campaign, and I wouldn’t bet against him making a move permanently to the Bundesliga and away from Old Trafford when that loan expires.

If he can rediscover the scintillating form which made his a star at the Signal Iduna Park, Sancho will write a few of his own Bundesliga 2024 news headlines over the next five months.

He may have burnt his bridges at Old Trafford; but that won’t worry Sancho one bit.  After appearing in just the first three Premier League games of the campaign, he fell out with Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag and has been isolated since September, training away from the fist team group after he claimed the manager made him a scapegoat for the club’s poor performances.

His troubles in Salford were a far cry from his first two seasons at Borussia Dortmund who he joined in 2017. In his second season, Sancho became one of the first names on the team sheet, and he was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.

With 38 goals in 104 appearances for Die Schwarzgelben, he was catapulted into stardom, but things haven’t worked out the same way in England.

Now he has a chance to kick start his career in Dortmund. Erik ten Hag has started his Old Trafford clearout and has wished him well and, at 23 years of age, Sancho still has the world at his feet. This could turn out to be the signing of the window in the German top-flight.

Dier to Bayern

Tottenham Hotspur's Eric Dier says Harry Kane influence his decision to play in the Bundesliga
Bayern Munich sign Harry Kane’s former Spurs teammate Eric Dier

Here at SBOTOP, we’ve recently reported on Manchester United, who are set to meet Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, and that brings us to another Premier League star who is hot-footing his way to the Bundesliga as Spurs defender Eric Dier has arrived in Munich to help FC Bayern’s title push.

The Bavarians will pay a €4 million fee to sign the England star, who is in the last year of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He completed a medical on Friday, and Dier has completed his first press interview at the club after Bayern bosses swooped to sign him after they missed out on Genoa Radu Dragusin, who was signed by Spurs last week. That eased the Dier move from the North London club’s point of view, and the 29-year-old has said it is like a dream come true.

He has fallen out of favour with new boss Ange Postecoglou, but he is delighted to be joining his old Spurs mate Harry Kane, who has made a sensational start to his FC Bayern career.

The two players grew up at Tottenham together where Dier arrived in 2014, and he has made 365 appearances for club. But like Kane, he wants to win silverware, and the Bundesliga 2024 betting odds say he has made the right move.

Bayern boss Tuchel rates his new utility man highly, saying: “He is more or less a specialist in the central defencive role. He’s played as a holding midfielder. He can play as part of a back four and three at the back so we can free up Leon Goretzka in midfield so he doesn’t have to switch between playing as a Number 8 or being deeper.”

Dier has featured in just four games for Spurs this season, though he made 42 appearances last term, and he is still very much in his prime.

Kane picks up where he left off

FC Bayern’s title push has got underway again on Friday night, and in some style as the Bavarians beat TSG Hoffenheim 3-0 to move to within a point of Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga table.

The German giants brushed their opponents aside as flying winger Jamal Musiala scored two goals, but it was Kane again who stole the limelight when he bagged a third in the last minute of normal time.

That goal means Kane has equalled the record of 22 goals in 16 games, bringing him level with Munich legend Robert Lewandowski.

It was an emotional night at the Allianz Arena where fans and players paid tribute to Bayern legend Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away last week at the age of 78. The German maestro was nicknamed Der Kaiser by fans worldwide as his imperious performances on the pitch made Germany an irresistible force in the 1970s.

Bayern wore shirts with “Danke Franz” written across the front, and they gave him the best tribute possible as Musiala scored either side of the halftime break and Kane smashed home the third.
