Bundesliga: Frankfurt Can Make it to Champions League Football, But There’s a Catch

Eintracht Frankfurt vs RB Leipzig

While the Bundesliga title is already sealed by Bayer Leverkusen and the top four spots are also clinched, there’s still more to play for in the final matchday of the 2023-24 campaign, especially when Eintracht Frankfurt host RB Leipzig at the Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday.

This particular match is important for the hosts, who are in dire need of a win since Hoffenheim are lurking. A win for Eintracht Frankfurt would confirm their sixth-place finish, and there’s a chance that they’ll play in the Champions League next season.

Once they take care of business against RB Leipzig this weekend, Eintracht Frankfurt are going to root for Borussia Dortmund to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League final because if it happens, they will automatically claim the final Champions League berth for next season.

Talking Points

Ekitike in rhythm for Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt recently triggered their buy option on Hugo Ekitike, and the former PSG striker is showing why the team made the right decision on acquiring him permanently.

After going goalless for much of the 2023-24 campaign, Ekitike has now scored three goals in his last four appearances for Die Adler. The 21-year-old also has two assists this year.

Since he was inserted in the starting lineup to partner with Omar Marmoush up front, Hugo Ekitike has shown flashes of potential. Other than his scoring touch, Ekitike is a workhorse with his willingness to press from the front, and he can operate from a deeper position when needed.

Because he has the hot hand, head coach Dino Toppmoller is likely to continue with Ekitike and Marmoush up front against RB Leipzig.

Omar Marmoush is still the team’s leading scorer with 15 goals and six assists, but he hasn’t found the back of the net for nearly a month now.

Another player that RB Leipzig have to watch out for is Junior Dina Ebimbe, who scored last week against Borussia Monchengladbach. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder is Die Adler’s second-leading scorer this season, with eight goals and four assists.

Simons might return for RB Leipzig

Another PSG player who is making waves in the Bundesliga is Xavi Simons. But unlike Hugo Ekitike, the Parisiens are planning to bring him back next season, and for good reason.

Simons is Die Roten Bullen’s best playmaker this season, with nine goals and 13 assists. Because he is instrumental to their campaign, the 21-year-old winger is attracting significant interest in the open market.

According to the latest Bundesliga 2024 news, Barcelona, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich are all reportedly interested in signing Xavi Simons in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Simons was absent against Werder Bremen last time out after being sent off against Hoffenheim for two yellow cards. Because he has served his one-match suspension, Simons will contend for a spot in the starting lineup to potentially replace Yussuf Poulsen.

History

Eintracht Frankfurt defeated RB Leipzig 1-0 in their last league meeting in January, as Ansgar Knauff scored the only goal of the contest in seven minutes.

Before this, RB Leipzig won their last two competitive matches against Eintracht Frankfurt, which was as many wins for the former in their previous 13 combined.

RB Leipzig have the big edge in terms of recent form because they’ve been undefeated in their last five league matches (W3, D2), although they haven’t won in their last two. Eintracht Frankfurt, meanwhile, are winless in four of their last five (W1, L3, D1).

As mentioned, Eintracht Frankfurt will make it back to the Champions League for the third time ever if certain things fall into place. The last time they made it was in the 2022-23 season, where they went as far as the Round of 16.

Betting Tip

The SBOTOP Bundesliga 2024 odds predict a close game between Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig. The visitors have the slight edge at 2.26 odds, whereas the hosts are at 2.68, and a draw is at 3.49 in the 1X2 market.

This game could go either way, so we’re looking instead at the possible goal count of this contest. And we feel that there will be a handful of goals to be seen on Saturday, making Total Goal 2-3 at 2.16 the safest bet.

However, if you feel that Eintracht Frankfurt will win this one, then check out the Correct Score of 1-0 in their favour – the result of their reverse fixture – given its generous payout of 14.50, while a Correct Score of 2-0 has a slightly higher offer of 19.50.
